# How do I send a Messenger DM when someone comments on my Facebook post?

**Short answer:** Connect your Facebook Page, then open New Automation, choose Comment to DM, pick the Facebook pill and your Page posts, and set the trigger words, public reply and DM. People who comment get your reply under their comment and a private message in Messenger.

## Before you start

- Connect your Facebook Page first. See [How do I connect my Facebook Page?](https://instantdm.com/how-to/connect-facebook-page.md)
- Facebook automations are on **Legend Pro and above**. On lower plans you'll see "🚀 Facebook Automation is Live!" with an upgrade button.

## Steps

1. On **Home**, click **New Automation**.
2. Choose **Comment to DM**.
3. On "Which posts?", pick where it runs:
   - **Existing posts**: click the **Facebook** pill, then click one or more Page posts.
   - **All posts**: every Page post, including new ones. Tick **Facebook**, or both **Instagram** and **Facebook** to set up both at once.
   - **Next post**: a post you haven't published yet.
4. Click **Next**.
5. Under "What should it send?", pick **Send Link & PDF**, **Lead Gen** or **Flow Automation**.
   - **Lead Gen** asks for a name, email or phone in the chat.
   - **Flow Automation** is a multi-step chat with buttons (Trendsetter and above). It's hidden if you picked Instagram and Facebook together.
6. If you picked 2 or more posts, name the group, then click **Publish Setup**. The editor opens.
7. Add trigger words (or choose all comments), your public replies and the DM text.
8. Click **Publish**.

You can also go to **Quick Automation**, open the **Facebook** tab, and click a post under **Facebook Posts**.

## On the phone app

Tap **Facebook** on Home. Tap a Page post, or use **Quick Global Automation** (all posts) or **Next Post Automation**. The editor is the same as for Instagram posts. Connecting the Page itself opens the website.

## What your followers see

1. Your public reply appears under their comment, posted by your Page.
2. They get a private message from your Page in Messenger.

If someone comments twice, they get the DM twice.

## Good to know

- For **Next post** on Facebook, you get a caption code to put in the Page post's text, just like on Instagram. See [How do I set up an automation before I post?](https://instantdm.com/how-to/automate-next-post.md)
- There are no Stories, Live or Collabs for Facebook in InstantDM.
- Scheduling Facebook posts isn't possible. **Later** is Instagram only.

## What you can't do

- Use the follow-first option on Facebook.
- Automate Facebook Story replies.
- Run one Flow on both Instagram and Facebook. Make one per platform.
- Automate comments on Facebook ads.

## How to turn it off

## If it doesn't work

- No Facebook tab or posts → your Page isn't connected, or the connection expired. Reconnect from **Account Settings** → **Safety & Limits**.

## Questions people also ask

**Can one automation cover the same post on Instagram and Facebook?**

For All posts and Next post, tick both Instagram and Facebook. InstantDM creates one automation for each platform. For specific posts, set them up per platform.

**Can I ask people to follow my Page before they get the link?**

No. The follow-first option is only for Instagram. It is hidden on Facebook.

**Does it work on my Facebook ads?**

No. Comments on the Facebook placement of ads are not automated. Ad comments work only on Instagram.

**Do text-only Page posts show up?**

Yes. Posts without a photo or video appear as text tiles you can pick.
