# How do I send Instagram leads to Kit (ConvertKit)? Other guides: https://instantdm.com/how-to/llms.txt_ **Short answer:** Add your Kit API Key (V3) and API Secret (V3) in Account Settings, Integrations, and click Save. Then, in a Flow Automation that asks an Email question, open Integrations, switch on Kit (ConvertKit), choose On every answer and click Set Live. Kit gets the email and first name. Trendsetter and above. ## Before you start - This needs **Trendsetter and above**. It works only through **Flow Automation** (a multi-step chat you build on the web). **Lead Gen** does not sync. - Your flow must ask with an **Email** question. An email asked with a Text question is not sent. - In Kit, open your developer settings and copy your v3 API key and v3 API secret. The **How to get your API key** link in InstantDM opens that page. > Fill in **both** API Key (V3) and API Secret (V3). Kit shows **Connected** with only the key, but nothing reaches Kit without the secret. ## Steps 1. Click **Account Settings** in the sidebar and open the **Integrations** tab. 2. Under "Available", click **Kit (ConvertKit)**. 3. Paste your key into **API Key (V3)** and your secret into **API Secret (V3)**. 4. Optional: type a **Form ID (optional)** to subscribe people to that Kit form. 5. Click **Save** at the top of Settings. The tag changes to **Connected**. 6. Open **Flow Automation** and click your flow (or click **New Flow Automation** → **Instagram** to make one). 7. Make sure the flow has an **Email** question. Add one with **Collect Email** in the bottom toolbar if needed. Add a **Name** question too if you want the first name in Kit. 8. Click **Integrations** (top right) and switch on **Kit (ConvertKit)**. 9. Under **When to push data**, choose **On every answer**, then click **Done**. 10. Click **Set Live**. You'll see "Changes Published." ## On the phone app Use the web app at app.instantdm.com for this. The phone app can't edit flows or integration keys. ## What your followers see Nothing changes for them. They answer your email question in the DM as usual. Anything Kit sends after that, such as a confirmation or welcome email, depends on your Kit form and automation settings. ## Good to know - **Why On every answer**: with **On flow completion**, Kit only gets the lead when the flow fully ends. Flows that end on a button or link message (for example a download or booking link) never count as finished, so Kit gets nothing. - With **On every answer**, InstantDM sends the lead as soon as the email is answered, and again after later answers. Kit just updates the same subscriber. - Kit gets: email and first name (from your **Name** question). Phone numbers and other answers are not sent. - There is no test button and no delivery log for Kit. Test from a second Instagram account and check your Kit subscribers. - The Kit settings are for the whole account. Every flow with Kit switched on uses the same form or tag. ## What you can't do - Send answers other than email and first name to Kit custom fields. - Use a different Kit form per flow. - Sync Lead Gen or Send Link automations to Kit. ## How to turn it off Open the flow, click **Integrations**, switch off **Kit (ConvertKit)**, click **Done** and **Set Live**. ## If it doesn't work - **Connected, but nothing in Kit**: fill in **API Secret (V3)** and click **Save**. - **Still nothing**: check that the question type is **Email**, that **Kit (ConvertKit)** is on in this flow, and that you clicked **Set Live** after changing it. - **Set to On flow completion**: switch to **On every answer**. - **Some people are missing**: their email failed the format check and they ran out of retries. Why?** The Connected tag only checks the API Key, but syncing uses the API Secret (V3). Fill in the API Secret, click Save, and test again. **Which Kit form or tag do new subscribers get?** If you fill in Form ID, they subscribe to that form. If you leave it empty, they get a tag named instantdm. **Does Kit get my other answers, like phone or budget?** No. Kit gets the email and the first name only. **Can Lead Gen send to Kit?** No. Only Flow Automation syncs to Kit.
