# How do I send Instagram leads to Klaviyo?

**Short answer:** Add your Klaviyo Private API Key (pk_...) and an optional List ID in Account Settings, Integrations, and click Save. Then, in a Flow Automation with an Email question, open Integrations, switch on Klaviyo, choose On every answer and click Set Live. Klaviyo gets the email, name, phone and Instagram username. Trendsetter and above.

## Before you start

- This needs **Trendsetter and above**. It works only through **Flow Automation** (a multi-step chat you build on the web). **Lead Gen** does not sync.
- Your flow must ask with an **Email** question. An email asked with a Text question is not sent.
- In Klaviyo, create a **private** API key (it starts with `pk_`). If you limit its access, it must be able to write profiles, lists and subscriptions. The **How to get your API key** link in InstantDM opens Klaviyo's guide.

## Steps

1. Click **Account Settings** in the sidebar and open the **Integrations** tab.
2. Under "Available", click **Klaviyo**.
3. Paste your key into **Private API Key**.
4. Optional: type your **List ID (optional)** to add every lead to that list.
5. Click **Save** at the top of Settings. The tag changes to **Connected**.
6. Open **Flow Automation** and click your flow (or click **New Flow Automation** → **Instagram**).
7. Make sure the flow has an **Email** question (**Collect Email** in the bottom toolbar). Add **Name** and **Phone** questions if you want them in Klaviyo.
8. Click **Integrations** (top right) and switch on **Klaviyo**.
9. Under **When to push data**, choose **On every answer**, then click **Done**.
10. Click **Set Live**.

## On the phone app

Use the web app at app.instantdm.com for this. The phone app can't edit flows or integration keys.

## What your followers see

Nothing changes for them. They answer your questions in the DM. What Klaviyo sends afterwards depends on your Klaviyo flows.

## Good to know

- **What Klaviyo gets**: email, first name (from a **Name** question), phone (from a **Phone** question), and the properties `source` = instantdm, `ig_username`, and one named after your flow set to true.
- The email is subscribed to email marketing. If you set a **List ID**, the profile is also added to that list.
- If the profile already exists, InstantDM updates its name, phone and properties.
- **Phone numbers**: ask people to include the country code, for example "+14155550123" or "+919876543210". Phone answers must be digits with no spaces.
- **Why On every answer**: with **On flow completion**, Klaviyo only gets the lead when the flow fully ends. Flows that end on a button or link message never count as finished, so nothing is sent.
- There is no test button and no delivery log for Klaviyo. Test from a second Instagram account and check your profiles.

## What you can't do

- Choose a different list per flow. The list is set once for the account.
- Send other answers to Klaviyo profile properties.
- Sync Lead Gen or Send Link automations.

## How to turn it off

Open the flow, click **Integrations**, switch off **Klaviyo**, click **Done** and **Set Live**.

## If it doesn't work

- **Profiles arrive but aren't in your list**: fill in **List ID (optional)** and click **Save**.
- **Nothing arrives**: check the key starts with `pk_`, the question type is **Email**, **Klaviyo** is on in this flow and **When to push data** is **On every answer**. Click **Set Live** after any change.
- **Some people are missing**: their email failed the format check. See [answer rules](https://instantdm.com/how-to/answer-rules-email-phone-name.md).

## Questions people also ask

**Will leads be added to a Klaviyo list?**

Only if you fill in List ID. Without it, InstantDM creates or updates the profile and subscribes the email, but doesn't add it to a list.

**How can I see which flow a lead came from?**

Each profile gets a property named after the flow (for example lead_magnet_flow set to true), plus source instantdm and ig_username.

**Can Lead Gen send to Klaviyo?**

No. Only Flow Automation syncs. The Lead Gen card says No integrations.
