# How do I see how many people clicked my link?

**Short answer:** Turn on Track link clicks under your DM text or on each button, then publish. InstantDM swaps your link for a short tracking link. You then see Link Opened next to each person in the post's All Comments tab, and total clicks, unique clickers and top posts in Insights, Link Clicks tab.

## Before you start

- Only links sent by InstantDM with tracking turned on are counted.
- Tracking is **off** by default for links in text messages and **on** by default for buttons.

## Steps

1. Open the post's editor: **Quick Automation** → **Instagram** → **Posts** → click the post → **Send Link or PDF** card.
2. Turn on **Track link clicks**:
   - For **Text/Link**: the switch is under the message box. You'll see "Your URLs will be replaced by InstantDM tracking links".
   - For **Button**: each button has its own **Track link clicks** switch.
   - In **DM Sequence**: text and button messages each have the switch.
3. Click **Publish**.
4. To see clicks for one post: open the post and go to the **All Comments** tab. People who opened the link show **Link Opened**. Expand a row to see the time.
5. To download them: click **View Summary** and then **Download CSV**. The file has a Link Opened column.
6. To see your whole account: click **Insights** in the sidebar and open the **Link Clicks** tab.

Lead Gen, DM automations and flow message steps have the same **Track link clicks** switch.

## On the phone app

- See clicks: **Dashboard** tab on Home → **Link Clicks** (Total Clicks, Unique Clickers, top location and platform, top buttons and posts).
- Per person: on **Manage Post**, the **Contacts** tab shows a **Link Opened** badge.
- Turn tracking on: the app's post editor (**Send Link or Images**) has no tracking switch, so turn it on from the web. In **DM** tab automations, the **Text Message** step has **Track link clicks**.

## What your followers see

A short InstantDM link instead of your original long link. When they tap it, they go straight to your page.

## What the Link Clicks numbers mean

- **Total Clicks**: every click, including repeat clicks by the same person.
- **Unique Clickers**: how many different people clicked.
- **Top Location** and **Top Platform**: where the clicks came from (city or country, and android, ios or desktop).
- **Top CTA Buttons**: your buttons with the most clicks, by button text.
- **Top Posts by Clicks**: the posts whose DMs got the most clicks.

## Good to know

- Location comes from the click, not from the person's profile.

- With tracking off, your original link is sent and no clicks are counted.

## What you can't do

- Count clicks on links sent before you turned tracking on.
- Count clicks on links you send yourself from the Instagram app.
- See purchases or revenue.

## How to turn it off

Switch **Track link clicks** off and click **Publish**. Your original link is sent from then on.

## If it doesn't work

- No **Link Opened** tags: tracking was off when the DM was sent, or nobody has tapped the link yet.
- Clicks look higher than people: **Total Clicks** counts repeat taps. Use **Unique Clickers** for people.

## Questions people also ask

**Why are my link clicks zero?**

Tracking is off by default for links in text messages. Turn on Track link clicks under the text and publish again. Only links sent after that are counted.

**What does CTR mean in Insights?**

Link clicks divided by DMs sent, as a percent. If clicks are higher than DMs, it shows clicks per DM instead, for example 1.4x.

**Can I see sales from my DMs?**

No. InstantDM shows link clicks, not sales. Use your shop's own reports for sales.
