TL;DR

The AI influencer is the traffic source. The checkout is a different product. Pick the storefront that matches the SKU, then put the URL in a DM. InstantDM is the product we make, so this section is long on purpose: it sits above Fanvue, Gumroad, Whop, Stan, Passes, and Patreon. It does not replace them.

  • Fanvue: subs, PPV, tips. Standard 80/20 as of April 2026. AI-friendly. Wrong for a $24 PDF.
  • Passes: 10% + $0.30 on the public Starter pitch, keep ~90%. Paid DMs. Creators+ is 20% if you stay on that plan. Confirm in-app.
  • Gumroad: 10% + $0.50 direct, 30% Discover. One-time files. Merchant of Record. No adult content.
  • Stan Store: ~$29 or $99/month, 0% platform fee, mobile shop. Instagram-native. Confirm on stan.store.
  • Whop: 2.7% + $0.30 cards, no monthly fee. Course + community. Yang Mun-shaped.
  • Patreon: SFW memberships. 10% platform for new pages after 4 Aug 2025, plus processing.

Pricing and plan limits below are as of August 2026, from each vendor's public pages or help docs where linked. Vendors change plans without notice. Check their current pricing before you decide. Named product names are trademarks of their owners. InstantDM is not affiliated with them.

For the named AI cases and SKUs, start with how AI influencers make money in 2026. For a wider digital-product roundup, we already compared Gumroad alternatives and Sellfy alternatives in 2026.

Where does an AI influencer actually checkout?

You already have the hard part if the face is locked and the Reel is posting. You do not have a business until someone can pay you without DMing "link?" and waiting. Bio links leak. Story stickers leak. The comment is the hot moment. The DM is where the URL belongs.

AI operators get this wrong in two directions. They open Fanvue because a YouTube thumbnail promised $10K weeks, then try to sell a workout PDF on a platform built for subscriptions. Or they open Gumroad, drop a $24 ebook, and never send the link because they are generating the next 40 clips.

Match the pipe to the water. Recurring intimacy and PPV go to Fanvue or Passes. A file goes to Gumroad or Stan. A course plus Discord-style room goes to Whop. A SFW membership that already thinks like a podcast goes to Patreon. InstantDM is how the comment becomes any of those URLs while you sleep.

Results and fee math in this post are from public pages and named cases. They are not typical, promised, or guaranteed. A 400-follower account with a $24 file and a working keyword will still beat a 40,000-follower account that only says "link in bio."

Is Fanvue worth it for AI influencers in 2026?

Fanvue is where a lot of AI faces go when the content is a persona people want to keep. Subscriptions, paywalled posts, pay-to-view messages, tips, bundles. Aitana Lopez has used it as one slice of a mix that also includes brand deals. Emily Pellegrini's early Fanvue run is the story every course seller still screenshots. The Higgsfield operator in The AI Journal compared OnlyFans and Passes more than Fanvue, but the shape is the same: recurring plus PPV plus paid messages.

The fee you should model is the legal default, not the launch tweet. Fanvue's Creator Earnings & Payouts policy (updated 22 April 2026) says the standard creator earning rate is 80% of gross revenue from paid-for services, with 20% retained as platform fees. The same policy allows a promotional earning rate for new or eligible creators. Fanvue's own blog has described 15% for the first 30 days after KYC. Treat 80/20 as the year-two number. Treat 15% as a window you must confirm in the dashboard.

Minimum payout and payout rails change by region. The policy also sets a seven-day pending period that can stretch to 28 days, and a $50 administrative fee if your chargeback rate exceeds 1.5% in 30 days. Model cash flow with a lag, not with "I posted, I got paid."

AI policy is the reason Fanvue shows up in this comparison. The platform has publicly allowed AI-generated creators, with labelling and KYC. That is a real advantage against OnlyFans, which has been hostile to fully AI accounts. It is also why Trustpilot in 2026 is full of fans angry that they subscribed to a person who is not a person. Disclose on Instagram and on Fanvue. If the fan thinks they are dating the character, you are running a grift, not a storefront.

Use Fanvue when the product is access. Do not use it as your only checkout for a $24 ebook. The buyer of a PDF does not want a membership wall. They want a card field and a file.

Is Passes better than Fanvue for AI influencer subscriptions?

Passes is the other subscription box. Lucy Guo's company. Public homepage pitch as of 2026: keep 90% of what you earn, 10% + $0.30 a transaction, paid DMs, PPV, livestreams, merch, 1:1 calls, screenshot blocking. Their own comparison page (data noted as of February 2026) lists "as low as 10% + $0.30/txn." The April 2026 rebrand post said the 10% fee did not change.

Read the help center before you celebrate. Passes' Creators+ plan page says all creators start on Creators+, and "Passes takes a 20% cut of your earnings on Creators+." Starter is the 10% story. Creators+ is the 20% story. If you never downgrade, you are modelling the wrong split. Check Settings. If you want the 90/10 number in a blog comment, you have to actually be on Starter.

Why AI operators care: the anonymous Higgsfield operator told The AI Journal that Passes ran about $12,500 a month versus about $3,500 on OnlyFans for the same persona. Mix was roughly $7,500 subscriptions, $3,000 paid DMs and custom, $1,500 PPV, $500 tips. Two brand stories at $1,000 each in 90 days. Paid messages beat the brands. That is a Passes-shaped business, not a Gumroad-shaped one.

Passes also says it does not want nudity, and it has talked about a follower minimum (public FAQ has said 100,000 across social, with exceptions). If you are a new AI account, you may not get in. Fanvue is the easier on-ramp. Passes is the better headline split if you get in and you stay on the 10% plan.

Shop/marketplace fees have been promoted at 0% for a promotional window (Passes blog, August 2025, "up to one full year"). Do not build a 2027 model on a 2025 promo. Digital files still belong on Gumroad or Stan unless you have confirmed the live Shop rate.

Is Gumroad the best checkout for an AI influencer ebook?

Gumroad is still the default for a zip file. Ebook, prompt pack, preset, recipe cards, LUT pack. No monthly fee. You make a product, you paste a link, they take a cut when it sells.

Official pricing at gumroad.com/pricing as of this writing: 10% + $0.50 per transaction for sales through your profile or direct links. 30% when new customers find and buy through Discover. Since 1 January 2025 Gumroad is Merchant of Record and handles sales tax and VAT. That is the unsexy reason it still wins for a first SKU. You do not want to register for VAT because a monk ebook sold in Germany.

What you cannot sell: adult content, among a longer prohibited list. If the AI persona's real product is PPV, Gumroad will not save you. If the product is "The Way Back to Stillness," Gumroad is exactly the pipe.

Discover at 30% is a trap for people who think Gumroad is a traffic source. It is not. Your Instagram comment is the traffic source. Direct link, 10% + $0.50. A $24 ebook costs $2.40 + $0.50 = $2.90 to Gumroad, plus whatever they withhold for tax as MoR. Still simpler than standing up Shopify for one PDF.

Gumroad memberships exist if you want a light recurring SKU without Whop's community. Fine for an "inner circle" PDF drop. Weak for a true paid Discord. Weak for PPV photos. Match the tool.

Should AI influencers use Stan Store for Instagram checkout?

Stan is what you open when the buyer is already on their phone, thumb on your bio, and you want them to check out without a new mental model. One mobile page. Products, memberships, bookings. It is a storefront with a link-in-bio costume.

Public 2026 roundups (Kourses, May 2026; several fee tables through July 2026) list Creator at $29/month and Creator Pro at $99/month, both with 0% platform fee, Stripe or PayPal processing extra (typically 2.9% + $0.30). Stan's own marketing site geo-routes and has been flaky to fetch. Confirm on stan.store before you pay. If those numbers hold, the break-even versus Gumroad on a $24 file is a volume question. At 20 sales a month, Gumroad's 10% + $0.50 is cheaper than $29. At 200 sales, Stan's flat fee wins.

Stan does not handle global VAT the way Gumroad-as-MoR does. You are closer to "real shop owner." That is the cost of the pretty mobile page. It also does not give you Fanvue's PPV inbox. It is the wrong home for a spicy subscription and the right home for a $27 plan plus a $97 course plus an email capture.

We already wrote the Instagram-specific version of this for human creators: how Stan Store creators use Instagram DM automation. The AI version is identical except the face cannot type "sent you the Stan link." InstantDM does that part.

Use Stan when almost all traffic is Reels and Stories and you want one branded page. Do not use it as a discovery marketplace. There is no Discover tab sending you strangers. The comments are the strangers.

Is Whop better than Stan for an AI influencer course?

Whop is where the $50 course and the Inner Circle live in the same building. Storefront, chat, lessons, livestream, affiliates. Yang Mun's public ladder (ebook, course, circle, coaching) is a Whop-shaped business even when the exact checkout domain is a mix of Whop and a .com.

Official card pricing from Whop's fees docs and whop.com/network/pricing as of August 2026: 2.7% + $0.30 per successful domestic card, +1.5% international, +1% conversion, ACH at 1.5% capped at $5. No monthly fee on the standard plan. Optional add-ons (tax remittance, extra billing tools) are extra percentages. Whop dropped a 30% marketplace Discover fee in a 2025 changelog. Do not quote 30% as current unless you have a live screenshot of it applying to you.

Payout fees exist ($2.50 to $23 type rails show up in partner writeups). International cards add cost. The "3%" headline is domestic cards. Model 4 to 7% all-in if your buyers are not all US Visa.

Use Whop when the product is a relationship that lasts more than a download. A prompt pack can live on Gumroad. A 30-day healing journey with weekly calls belongs on Whop. Do not put a $9 recipe card here just to feel like a founder.

Whop is also where shovel sellers end up. The $97 "how I built the monk" course wants a classroom, not a PDF. If that is you, read the niches post and stay honest about whether you have proof or just a Higgsfield login.

Does Patreon allow AI influencers?

Patreon is still the word non-spicy fans understand. Podcasts, writers, artists, a monthly drop. For an AI influencer it is a fit when the work is SFW and the buyer wants to "support the character" the way they support a webcomic.

Fee reality for anyone starting now: Patreon's standard platform fee is 10% for pages published after 4 August 2025. The Creator fees FAQ (updated 19 July 2026) repeats 10% for the standard plan, with legacy creators on 5%, 8%, or 11%. Processing is extra. iOS in-app purchases add Apple's 30% (15% after a year of continuous billing), which Patreon offsets by marking up the iOS price. Tell fans to join on the web.

Patreon will not be your NSFW home. It also will not be your $24 impulse PDF home. The mental model is membership. If your AI monk drops a weekly audio and a monthly PDF, Patreon is a respectable second storefront next to Gumroad. If your AI fitness face is mostly Reels and a $27 plan, skip it until someone asks for a monthly club.

Apple's cut is the quiet killer. A $5 patron who joined in the iPhone app is a different net than a $5 patron who joined on the web. Put the Patreon URL in the InstantDM, not in an app-store interstitial.

How do Fanvue, Gumroad, Whop, Stan, and Passes fees compare in 2026?

All-in numbers assume a $24 US card sale where processing is not bundled, unless the vendor says it is. International and tax change this. Confirm before you price a catalogue.

Platform Monthly fee Headline cut Typical extra AI / adult Best SKU
Fanvue $0 20% (80/20 standard) Promo 15% window after KYC; payout lag AI allowed with rules; SFW+NSFW Subs, PPV, paid messages
Passes $0 10% + $0.30 (Starter pitch) Creators+ 20%; check plan AI used in the wild; no nudity pitch; access gates Subs + paid DMs
Gumroad $0 10% + $0.50 direct 30% Discover; MoR tax No adult; AI files fine $9–$47 downloads

How much do you keep on a $24 ebook vs a $9.99 subscription?

Assume 100 sales of a $24 ebook in a month, all from your own Instagram comments, US cards.

  • Gumroad direct: 100 × ($2.40 + $0.50) = $290 to Gumroad. You keep about $2,110 before tax. $0 monthly.
  • Whop domestic: 100 × (2.7% of $24 + $0.30) = 100 × $0.948 = $94.80. You keep about $2,305. $0 monthly.
  • Stan at $29 + 2.9% + $0.30: $29 + 100 × $0.996 = $128.60. You keep about $2,271 if the $29 plan is accurate.
  • Fanvue 20% on $24 would be $480 to Fanvue. Do not sell the ebook there.

Now 700 subscribers at $9.99, the Higgsfield operator's ballpark.

  • Passes 10% + $0.30: about $0.999 + $0.30 = $1.30 per sub × 700 ≈ $910 to Passes. You keep ~$6,083 from subs alone before other fees.
  • Passes Creators+ at 20%: ~$1,398 to Passes. The plan you click in Settings is a four-figure decision.
  • Fanvue 20%: ~$1,398 to Fanvue. Promo 15% would be ~$1,049 for the window.
  • Patreon 10% + ~2.9% + $0.30: roughly $1.00 + $0.59 ≈ $1.59 × 700 ≈ $1,113, worse on $5 tiers, worse on iOS.

Gumroad is the wrong comparison for a subscription. Fanvue is the wrong comparison for a PDF. The table is not "which is cheapest." It is "which SKU are you selling."

When should you stack two platforms?

Almost as soon as the first SKU sells. One storefront is a starting point, not a religion.

The clean stacks:

  1. Gumroad (or Stan) for the $24 file + Fanvue or Passes for the people who want more of the person. Two keywords. GUIDE and FAN.
  2. Gumroad for the pack + Whop for the $97 course and chat. TOOL and COURSE.
  3. Stan as the pretty shop + Gumroad as the backup MoR link you paste when a country needs tax handled. Same SKU, two URLs, geo in your own head, not in the caption.
  4. Patreon for the SFW monthly + Gumroad for the one-off. Podcasters already live here. An AI history channel can too.

Do not stack Fanvue and Passes on day one. You will split the same thirsty audience across two 10 to 20% cuts and two inboxes you cannot staff. Pick one paid wall. Add the file storefront. Stop.

Do not put both URLs in one caption. "Comment LINK for Fanvue or the ebook" produces "which link" comments and dead DMs. One post, one keyword, one destination. The other SKU gets the next Reel.

Email is the third platform you actually own. Every checkout above should dump a buyer onto a list. If Instagram throttles the AI tag tomorrow, the list still sells the $24 file.

How does InstantDM deliver any checkout link?

We built InstantDM. That is why this section is longer than Stan's. Weigh it that way. InstantDM is not a storefront and it does not take 10% of the ebook. It is how the persona answers.

An AI influencer that cannot type is a content engine with a broken cash register. Comment-to-DM is the register. Someone comments GUIDE, InstantDM sends the Gumroad or Whop URL, optionally with a button template (up to 3 buttons) or a product template (up to 10 products). Story reply automation covers "send the plan" stickers. Follow-ups live on Trendsetter if they open the DM and do not click.

This is the same official Meta path human shops use. InstantDM is an official Meta Business Partner, built on the official Instagram Graph API. It never asks for your Instagram password. Safety suite, always on: DM Queue, Super Slow Mode, Rate Limit Controller, Flood Control. Designed to keep you inside Instagram's rate limits. It does not defeat those limits, and it is not a bypass. Send only as replies to comments, story replies, or inbound DMs. Never cold blast.

Pricing as of August 2026, from instantdm.com/pricing:

  • Free: 500 automations a month, no card, plus a 7-day trial of the full paid feature set.
  • Legend Pro: $9.99/month, unlimited contacts, comment-to-DM, AI comment replies, up to 750 DMs/hour.
  • Trendsetter: $24.99/month, follow-ups, Viral Mode handler, advanced safety, API/webhooks, no 750/hour throttle.

ManyChat and other contact-metered tools get expensive when a granny-scale Reel dumps 8,000 commenters into your account. InstantDM's differentiator is the flat unlimited-contact rate, not a claim that it is the only tool that can send a link. If you already live in ManyChat for five channels, stay. If you are an Instagram-first AI operator, $9.99 versus a per-contact bill is the math that matters when the cat video pops.

Map the keywords to the storefront, not to InstantDM plans:

If they comment You probably sell URL you paste
GUIDE / PLAN / BITE / LOOK$9–$47 fileGumroad or Stan
COURSE / INNER$50–$197 programmeWhop
FAN / SETSubscription + PPVFanvue or Passes
CLUBSFW monthlyPatreon (web checkout)
SHOPMerch or mixed SKUsStan or Passes Shop

Collect email in the DM when you can. Meta can restrict an unlabelled AI account. Your Gumroad customers should not vanish with it. In-DM lead capture is on Legend Pro. Make.com (live for InstantDM since December 2025) can dump those emails into Mailchimp or Sheets if you want the boring version of a CRM.

Human handoff still matters. "Are you real?" should not get a checkout link as the first sentence. Answer, disclose, then offer the file. A flow can do that in two steps. A bio link cannot.

Setup takes longer to describe than to do: connect Instagram, add the keyword, paste the checkout URL, write the caption CTA, test as yourself, then publish. Walkthroughs we already keep live: how to send a link when someone comments and InstantDM for AI influencers.

Which checkout should your AI influencer use?

You run a monk, a granny, or a cat, and you have a PDF. Open Gumroad today. Add InstantDM. Sell. Move the course to Whop when people ask for a room.

You run a locked lifestyle face and the comments are already thirsty. Fanvue if you can get through KYC and you will disclose. Passes if they let you in and you verified you are on the 10% plan. Still sell a SFW file on Gumroad so Instagram has something to distribute.

You are a shovel seller with tutorials. Gumroad for the pack, Whop for the workshop. Stan if you hate sending people to a desktop checkout. InstantDM keyword on every tutorial caption.

You are a regional studio chasing brands. The brand will pay on invoice. You still want a lookbook PDF on Stan or Gumroad so the 400,000 people who want to talk to the character have something to buy on Tuesday. Kyra's chat volume is the warning. FUTR built their own companion app. You probably should not. Stay in Instagram DMs.

You want one app that does checkout plus DMs plus community plus PPV. It does not exist in a way you should trust with an AI persona. Stack two. Automate the handoff.

Should an AI influencer use OnlyFans instead of Fanvue?

OnlyFans still takes 20%. It has been hostile to fully AI creators. The Higgsfield operator's own comparison was $3,500 there versus $12,500 on Passes. If a platform can shut the SKU off because the face is synthetic, it does not belong in your year-one stack. Fanvue and Passes are the paid-wall lanes that have actually tolerated AI personas, with labelling. Keep OnlyFans out of the first build unless you have a human on camera and a lawyer.

Same logic for random "AI girlfriend" storefronts that promise you 90% and then freeze payouts. If you cannot find a legal page with a dated earning rate, like Fanvue's April 2026 policy, do not send your buyers there. The 20% you keep on a platform that pays beats the 90% you were promised on a platform that does not.

What should you do in the first 48 hours after picking a storefront?

Hour 1: create the product. A Gumroad draft with a cover, a price, and a test file. Or a Fanvue page with KYC started, because KYC is the part that slips a week.

Hour 2: connect Instagram to InstantDM. One keyword. The live URL. A DM that names the AI and names the file. Send a test comment from a second account. Open the DM on your phone, not only in the desktop preview. Link previews break in ways dashboards hide.

Hour 3: write three captions that all end in the same keyword. Do not invent a second SKU tonight. Schedule the first Reel with the automation already on. If you publish first and automate second, the first hour of comments is a pile of "sent?" that you will answer by hand.

Day 2: one Story with a reply sticker that uses the same word. Story reply automation is the quiet half of this. People who will not comment in public will still reply "PLAN" to a sticker. That is still a buyer.

How do you pick a checkout this week?

Write the file or price the sub. Do not open five storefronts. Open one that matches the SKU in the table.

Put the URL in InstantDM, not in a Linktree with twelve other links. Caption gets one word. Comment gets the DM. Public reply "sent." Follow-up once if they do not click (Trendsetter).

Disclose AI on the post, in the bio, and on the paid platform. FTC still applies. Fanvue fans who feel tricked will chargeback, and Fanvue will take it out of your balance.

If you are still choosing the niche itself, use AI influencer niches that convert. If you do not have a face yet, use the create walkthrough. Checkout is the easy layer. The inbox is the one the case studies skip, and it is the one we actually built.

Legend Pro is $9.99/month as of August 2026. The storefronts above will take 3% to 20% of every sale whether InstantDM is on or not. The difference is whether the commenter ever sees the URL. Get started free and paste the link you already have.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where should an AI influencer take checkout in 2026?

Match the SKU. Fanvue or Passes for subscriptions and PPV. Gumroad for a one-time PDF or prompt pack. Stan Store for a mobile link-in-bio shop. Whop for a course plus community. Patreon if you are SFW and already think in memberships. InstantDM sits above all of them and DMs whichever URL you paste.

2. What is Fanvue's cut as of 2026?

Fanvue's legal payout policy (updated April 22, 2026) sets the standard creator earning rate at 80% of gross, so 20% stays with Fanvue. A promotional higher split for new creators after KYC is advertised separately (Fanvue has publicly described 15% for the first 30 days). Confirm the live promo in your dashboard before you model revenue.

3. What does Gumroad charge in 2026?

10% + $0.50 per transaction on direct/profile sales, 30% when a buyer finds you through Gumroad Discover, per gumroad.com/pricing. No monthly fee. Gumroad has been Merchant of Record since January 1, 2025, so it handles sales tax and VAT. Adult content is not permitted.

4. Is Stan Store or Whop cheaper for an AI influencer?

It depends on volume. Stan's public 2026 Creator plan is commonly listed at $29/month with 0% platform fee plus Stripe processing (about 2.9% + $0.30). Whop's official card rate is 2.7% + $0.30 with no monthly fee (docs.whop.com, August 2026). At a few hundred dollars a month, Whop or Gumroad win. Once you are doing consistent five-figure months, Stan's flat fee can win if you confirm current pricing on stan.store.

5. Does Patreon allow AI influencers?

Patreon allows SFW AI-generated work if you follow their community guidelines and disclose. It is a poor fit for NSFW. New creator pages published after August 4, 2025 pay a 10% platform fee plus processing (Patreon Creator fees FAQ, updated July 19, 2026). iOS in-app purchases add Apple's cut unless the fan pays on the web.

6. Can I use two checkout platforms at once?

Yes, and most working operators should. Typical stack: Gumroad or Stan for the $24 file, Fanvue or Passes for the subscription. Two InstantDM keywords, two captions, never both links in one CTA. The buyer should not have to pick a storefront in a comment.

7. Where does InstantDM fit if it is not a storefront?

InstantDM is the delivery layer. Comment GUIDE, get the Gumroad link. Comment FAN, get Fanvue. Comment WHOP, get the community. It does not take a percentage of the sale. Legend Pro is $9.99/month as of August 2026, flat, unlimited contacts, official Meta Business Partner on the Instagram Graph API.

8. Which platform is best for a $24 ebook like Yang Mun?

Gumroad if you want zero monthly fee and tax handled. Whop if you also want a community and a $50 course in the same place. Stan if almost all traffic is Instagram and you want on-page checkout from a bio link. Fanvue is the wrong tool for an ebook.
