Respond.io logo on the left, VS in the center, ManyChat logo on the right. 2026 comparison graphic.

You typed Respond.io vs ManyChat because both list Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, and they look interchangeable on a comparison table. They are not.

Respond.io is a shared team inbox for mid-market B2C operations. ManyChat is a marketing flow builder for comment-to-DM campaigns. Buy the inbox when you have agents. Buy the flow builder when you have Reels. Mixing those jobs is how a $79 starter plan sits unused, or a contact invoice shows up the week a post works.

TL;DR

  • Respond.io scored 59 / 80 on an omnichannel team-inbox card. Buy it if five or more people need to route WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and email from one floor. Starter is $99/month ($79 billed yearly). Workflows, broadcasts, and AI Agents start on Growth at $199/month ($159 yearly). WhatsApp conversation fees from Meta sit on top.
  • ManyChat scored 55 / 80 on that same inbox card, 8 / 10 on social campaigns. Buy it if Instagram comment-to-DM, Messenger, WhatsApp, and SMS need to share one funnel. Free is 25 active contacts. Paid starts at Essential $17/month ($14 yearly) for 250 contacts. WhatsApp unlocks on Pro.
  • InstantDM scored 53 / 80 here and 10 / 10 on Meta. Buy it when the money is Instagram posts, Reels, Stories, Facebook Page comments, Messenger, and Meta ads, and you want $9.99 flat with unlimited contacts. WhatsApp is coming. It is not a reason to pick InstantDM this month if WhatsApp is the job this month.

Skip it if You only needed a Reel keyword You needed agent routing and a CRM You need WhatsApp live today

How did we compare Respond.io vs ManyChat?

Same rubric as Tidio vs ManyChat and Chatbase vs ManyChat, 26 August 2026.

  1. Walked Respond.io's Instagram channel docs (shared inbox, Auto Private Replies, story-interaction toggle) and ManyChat's Post and Reel Comments trigger.
  2. Read respond.io/pricing and manychat.com/pricing, plus ManyChat's plan help articles updated 19 August 2026.
  3. Mapped meters: Monthly Active Contacts and seats versus active contacts versus InstantDM's two public prices.
  4. Checked Instagram claims on vendor pages, not on directories. Respond.io's Auto Private Replies doc is dated 16 August 2026. ManyChat's comment trigger help is dated 25 June 2026.
  5. Scored eight criteria, 1–10. Modeled three volume bills.

Who scored higher, Respond.io or ManyChat?

Criterion What we tested Respond.io ManyChat InstantDM
Setup to first reply Signup to a working inbox or comment flow 6 7 8
Team inbox / routing Seats, assignment, supervisor view 10 6 6
Instagram + Facebook campaigns Comment keywords, stories, ads, collabs 6 8 10
WhatsApp operations BSP depth, broadcasts, team on WhatsApp 10 8 3 (roadmap)
Pricing predictability Can finance forecast next month 4 4 9
Marketing flow builder Funnels, keywords, sequences 6 9 8
AI Agents vs marketing AI vs comment replies 8 5 5
Extra channels TikTok, Telegram, SMS, LINE, email 9 8 4
Total 59 55 53

Respond.io wins the inbox pair. Almost all of that is seats, WhatsApp, and channel breadth. ManyChat takes the marketing builder. InstantDM takes Instagram and Facebook campaign depth and the only flat bill in the table.

How those numbers were earned. Setup: ManyChat's first comment flow is faster than Respond.io's workspace-and-channel onboarding. InstantDM is Meta OAuth, a keyword, a DM. Inbox: Respond.io is the product; ManyChat and InstantDM hand off inside social. Instagram + Facebook: InstantDM 10 for comment-to-DM, story replies, collab posts, schedule-with-AutoDM, Facebook copy-from-Instagram, and ads on Trendsetter. ManyChat 8 because the keyword trigger is real and collab posts only fire if you are the original poster. Respond.io 6 because Auto Private Replies send one private message to commenters, on all posts or on a chosen post. That is not a keyword funnel. WhatsApp: Respond.io 10 as an official BSP with calling on higher plans. ManyChat 8 on Pro and up. InstantDM 3 because WhatsApp is announced, not shipping. Predictability: both meters scored 4. InstantDM's $9.99 and $24.99 scored 9. Flow builder: ManyChat 9, InstantDM 8, Respond.io 6 because workflows sit on Growth. AI: Respond.io Agents on Growth scored 8. ManyChat AI on marketing flows scored 5. InstantDM AI comment replies scored 5. Extra channels: Respond.io 9, ManyChat 8, InstantDM 4 until WhatsApp lands.

Averaging them into "best messaging platform" is how you buy a $199 inbox for a Reel.

What is the difference between Respond.io and ManyChat?

Respond.io is a customer conversation platform. TechCrunch (15 June 2026) covered its $62.5 million Series B, $35 million ARR, and 10,000+ businesses. The product is a shared inbox for WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, LINE, WeChat, voice, and web chat, with AI Agents on Growth.

ManyChat is a campaign builder. Business Insider Africa (24 August 2026) put it at more than one million businesses, a billion conversations a year, and more than one million Instagram accounts connected. The product is Flow Builder: comment-to-DM, story replies, broadcasts, tags.

Rework's B2B comparison (27 February 2026) said it plainly: if you buy ManyChat expecting it to work like Respond.io, you will be frustrated, and vice versa. We agree.

On X, @AbuKianJabri (18 July 2026) split the same pair: Respond.io for large teams that want WhatsApp + Instagram + Facebook in one inbox, and ManyChat (often with 360dialog) for a marketing bot that sends campaigns. That is the honest split.

Does Respond.io markup WhatsApp fees?

Respond.io says no. It is an official WhatsApp Business Solution Provider. Its FAQ, How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost?, and its WhatsApp API pricing post all state: no onboarding fee, no number-porting fee, no per-message markup. You pay Meta's template rates plus the Respond.io subscription.

The catch that still hits the card: WhatsApp fees are not inside the SaaS price. You top up a WABA wallet. Respond.io's WhatsApp Fees help (updated 21 August 2026) documents a 5.5% Stripe transaction fee on every top-up or auto-recharge. A $100 top-up costs $105.50. That is a payment-processing fee, not a Meta markup, but it is still extra money.

Service conversations (you reply inside the 24-hour window) have been unlimited-free since 1 November 2024 on that help page. Template messages (Marketing, Utility, Authentication) are billed per message. Click-to-WhatsApp ads open a 72-hour free entry-point window. Meta will start charging service messages from 1 October 2026. That change hits every BSP, including Respond.io and ManyChat.

WhatsApp Calling API is on Respond.io Growth and above. ManyChat does not offer WhatsApp voice calling.

Does ManyChat markup WhatsApp fees?

ManyChat is also a BSP. WhatsApp is locked behind Pro ($39/month or $29 yearly) and up. Free and Essential cannot connect WhatsApp (Free plan help, 19 August 2026).

ManyChat's WhatsApp pricing guide (updated 23 June 2026) is the document that matters. It says ManyChat charges businesses for each delivered template message. Funds come out of a ManyChat Wallet as soon as the template lands. 1 transaction = 1 delivered template.

Rates ManyChat lists from 1 July 2026 (Marketing / Utility via Cloud API):

Market Marketing template Utility template
North America (US, Canada) $0.0287 $0.0039
India $0.0136 $0.0016
United Kingdom $0.0730 $0.0253
Brazil $0.0718 $0.0078
Indonesia $0.0472 $0.0287
United Arab Emirates $0.0574 $0.0180
Germany $0.1569 $0.0632
Netherlands $0.1836 $0.0575

Non-template replies inside the customer-service window are free on that same guide. Utility templates inside the 24-hour window are free. Marketing and utility templates inside a 72-hour click-to-WhatsApp entry window are free.

How much does WhatsApp actually cost on Respond.io vs ManyChat?

Worked illustrations, not invoices. 1,000 marketing templates to North America at ManyChat's published $0.0287, plus platform fees. Meta service replies assumed free until 1 October 2026.

Stack SaaS WhatsApp templates Other Rough total
ManyChat Pro, 2,500 contacts, 1,000 NA marketing templates $39 ~$29 Wallet top-up ~$68
Respond.io Growth, 1,000 MACs, same 1,000 templates $199 Meta pass-through (~$29 if rates match) 5.5% on the $29 top-up (~$1.60) ~$230
InstantDM Legend Pro, Instagram/Facebook only $9.99 No WhatsApp yet None $9.99

Respond.io is more expensive as software. It is cheaper as a WhatsApp pipe if you send a lot of templates and you believe the zero-markup claim. ManyChat is cheaper as software until contacts climb. InstantDM is cheapest if WhatsApp is not in the week.

ManyChat's WhatsApp calculator is the tool to model a specific country mix. Respond.io points you at Meta's rate card.

Does Respond.io support TikTok?

Yes. Respond.io is a TikTok Marketing Partner. Changelog, 21 August 2026: US-registered organizations can connect TikTok Business Messaging. Incoming TikTok chats land in the same inbox as WhatsApp. Respond.io was in early rollouts of TikTok Business Messaging and TikTok Messaging Ads (company Series B post, 16 June 2026).

That is an inbox plus ads, not ManyChat-style "comment this keyword on a TikTok, get a DM sequence." If your TikTok job is a support queue from ads, Respond.io is the closer product.

Does ManyChat support TikTok?

Yes, on paid plans. The Business plan help (19 August 2026) lists TikTok next to Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, and email. Free can pick TikTok as one of two channels. Rework said ManyChat's Instagram and TikTok DM funnels are deeper and longer-established than Respond.io's. That matches how we scored the campaign column.

ManyChat does not list TikTok Calling or a TikTok Conversions API suite the way Respond.io markets it.

Does Respond.io support WeChat?

Yes. Respond.io's own comparison tables list WeChat alongside LINE, Viber, SMS, email, and web chat. That is why APAC and China-adjacent B2C teams shortlist it. ManyChat does not list WeChat.

Does ManyChat support WeChat, LINE, or Viber?

No on WeChat. No on LINE. No on Viber. Respond.io's 2026 multichannel roundup marks those three as supported on Respond.io and not on ManyChat. Independent lists (Rework, Heyy, ChatMaxima) match that.

If WeChat, LINE, or Viber is a live customer channel, ManyChat is the wrong aisle. Respond.io or a regional specialist is the aisle.

Does Respond.io or ManyChat support SMS?

Both do. ManyChat includes SMS on Pro/Business/Advanced (not Free, not Essential). Respond.io lists SMS on its channel matrix for all paid plans that include chat channels.

SMS is a paid carrier product on top of either subscription. Neither publishes a single global SMS rate in the pages we used. Budget carrier fees separately, the same way you budget WhatsApp templates.

InstantDM does not support SMS.

Which has better customer support, Respond.io or ManyChat?

Respond.io's public claim, repeated in its ManyChat alternative page and Kommo vs ManyChat vs Respond.io post: 24/5 live human support in English, Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish; 24/7 AI support; all plans treated equally; 99.999% uptime; ISO 27001. Higher tiers add success managers and a 28-day onboarding program.

ManyChat's official path, from How to get support from Manychat (11 May 2026): Help Center, AI bot, Community forum, then Support Team tickets on certain paid plans. Free users have limited ticket access. There is no published 24/7 human chat for every plan.

The review record is not kind to ManyChat support. Trustpilot sat at 2.2/5 from 299 reviews on 17 August 2026, with the AI summary pointing at ignored tickets. G2 still rates the product itself around 4.5. People like the builder. They complain when billing or a broken flow needs a human at 9pm.

InstantDM support is email on Legend Pro and email + WhatsApp on Trendsetter, plus in-app chat. Different scale than Respond.io's 24/5 floor. Faster than waiting on a ManyChat ticket for a viral Reel, in the accounts we hear from.

Is Respond.io better than ManyChat for Instagram?

For a five-person team reading Instagram next to WhatsApp, yes, Respond.io. For "comment PRICE on this Reel, send the list, follow-gate, collect email," no. That is ManyChat or InstantDM.

Respond.io Auto Private Replies send one template DM when someone comments. No keyword list in that setup. A contact is created only after they reply. ManyChat's Post and Reel Comments trigger is the campaign mechanic. InstantDM adds collab posts, schedule-with-AutoDM, Facebook copy, and Viral Mode.

Rework's 2026 B2B piece gave Instagram and TikTok DM funnels to ManyChat. Massively's ManyChat alternatives roundup put Respond.io in the enterprise team-inbox lane from $79/month, not the creator funnel lane.

Is ManyChat better than Respond.io for Facebook and Messenger?

For Click-to-Messenger ads and comment-to-DM on a Facebook Page, ManyChat is the campaign tool. Respond.io will inbox the resulting chats and can call on Messenger on higher plans. InstantDM copies an Instagram automation onto the Facebook Page in one click and runs ads on Trendsetter.

If Facebook is a support queue, Respond.io. If Facebook is a funnel, ManyChat or InstantDM.

What do third-party reviews and posts say?

We read vendor blogs and independent pages, not just our own.

  • Respond.io, "10 Best Manychat Alternatives" (updated 14 August 2026): Respond.io wins on channels, WhatsApp calling, AI Agents, live support. ManyChat is for creators and small teams.
  • Respond.io's ManyChat alternative landing page: no live chat at ManyChat, 24/7 human + AI at Respond.io. Starter $79 vs ManyChat free. That page is a sales page. Treat it as their pitch.
  • Respond.io, Manychat vs Chatfuel vs Respond.io: same split, plus 99.9996% uptime claimed for Respond.io and "office hours + forums" for ManyChat.
  • Rework: Respond.io for multi-agent B2B conversation management; ManyChat for marketing automation and ad-to-chat. Instagram/TikTok funnels: ManyChat.
  • Massively, 8 Instagram DM tools (7 August 2026): Respond.io from $79/month per seat, "support teams of five or more rather than solo operators."
  • Heyy (1 July 2026): Respond.io as best omnichannel CRM; Growth required for AI Agents; Starter is live chat only.
  • YouTube: "Respond.io vs ManyChat (Which One Should You Use?)" frames ManyChat for solo creator DM marketing and Respond.io for teams across WhatsApp + Instagram + Facebook. Same conclusion we scored.
  • X: @AbuKianJabri — Respond.io for big teams, 360dialog + ManyChat for campaign bots. @TolroyAjith (13 May 2026) called WATI, Respond.io, and ManyChat expensive automation with little extra value for Indian businesses. That is a pricing complaint, not a feature map.

Nobody independent called either tool the best Instagram comment-to-DM specialist. That gap is why InstantDM is in the third column.

What does Respond.io actually do?

Respond.io homepage, August 2026, showing the team inbox product and Start Free Trial

Respond.io sells a customer conversation platform. Channels include WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, SMS, email, LINE, Viber, WeChat, web chat, and voice. The floor is a shared inbox with assignment, lifecycle fields, and supervisor reports.

Pricing from respond.io/pricing, 26 August 2026:

Plan Monthly Yearly (per month) Users included What you actually get
Starter $99 $79 5 Team inbox, AI Prompt, AI Assist, basic reports. No broadcasts. No workflows. No AI Agents.
Growth $199 $159 10 Broadcasts, workflow automation, AI Agents, Zapier/Make, developer API. Monthly Active Contacts start at 1,000.
Advanced $349 $279 10 Webhooks, HTTP in workflows, SSO, multiple workspaces, custom channels.
Enterprise Custom Custom Unlimited Higher API limits, more workspaces.

Extra users: $12–$24 per user per month depending on plan. Growth overage is $12 per 100 Monthly Active Contacts. Advanced overage is $15 per 100. A Monthly Active Contact is anyone you talked to that billing month. WhatsApp conversation fees from Meta are not in the subscription. You top those up separately.

Instagram on Respond.io is an inbox channel. From their Instagram integration page and Auto Private Replies help:

  • Agents read DMs, comments, and ad inquiries in one queue.
  • Auto Private Replies send one private message when someone comments on a post, Reel, ad, or live story.
  • You pick all content or specific posts. The message is a template with $contact.firstname. There is no keyword list in that setup.
  • A contact is only created after the person replies to that private message.
  • Story interactions can be turned off so emoji reacts do not flood the queue.
  • AI Agents that answer FAQs and send booking links sit on Growth and above.

That is a support product with a private-reply switch. It is not "comment LINK on this Reel, get the PDF, get follow-gated, get a drip." Independent roundups in 2026 keep putting Respond.io in the support lane and ManyChat in the campaign lane. We agree.

Pick Respond.io if a sales or support team needs WhatsApp plus Instagram plus CRM sync, and you will pay Growth money for workflows. Skip it if last month's leads commented a keyword on a Reel and you are one person.

What does ManyChat actually do?

ManyChat landing page showing its multi-channel chat automation platform for Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger

ManyChat is built for conversations on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, TikTok, SMS, and email. Comment-to-DM and story replies are the product, not a settings tab. The flow builder is the reason people still type ManyChat into Google.

Pricing after the 2 March 2026 overhaul, from ManyChat's pricing page and help articles updated 19 August 2026:

Plan Monthly Yearly (per month) Active contacts included Overage (monthly) Channels
Free $0 $0 25 n/a 2
Essential $17 $14 250 $0.10 2
Pro $39 $29 2,500 $0.05 3 (WhatsApp starts here)
Business $99 $69 7,500 $0.025 Unlimited
Advanced $199 $139 25,000 $0.004 Unlimited + API

An Active Contact is anyone who sends or receives a message that month. Automations that work grow the bill. The free plan dropped from 1,000 contacts to 25. WhatsApp is not on Free or Essential.

Instagram specifics we checked:

  • Post and Reel comment trigger with include/exclude keywords, or any comment.
  • Fires on the first comment a user leaves under that post. A second comment with the same word does not fire again. That is Instagram's API, not a ManyChat bug.
  • Nested replies to other comments do not fire the trigger. The CTA has to say "comment WORD below."
  • Collab and remix posts: automation belongs to the original poster. If you are only tagged as a collaborator, ManyChat will not own the comments.
  • Story replies and story mentions work.
  • Inbox seats are limited. Extra inbox seats on Pro are $25 each. This is not Respond.io's five-to-ten agent floor.

Pick ManyChat if WhatsApp and Instagram share one funnel and you already think in tags. Skip it if you needed a support floor, or you only needed Meta and you hate paying per person.

Does InstantDM have WhatsApp yet?

InstantDM homepage, August 2026

Respond.io fights for the operations floor. ManyChat fights for the campaign canvas. A lot of paid and organic traffic in 2026 is still a Reel, a Story, a Facebook Page post, or a Click-to-Message ad. No WhatsApp. No ten-seat inbox.

InstantDM is an official Meta Business Partner on the official Instagram Graph API. Instagram and Facebook from one dashboard. Legend Pro is $9.99/month, unlimited contacts. Trendsetter is $24.99 and adds Viral Mode, follow-ups, ads, and API access. Free: 500 automations a month plus a 7-day full trial (instantdm.com/pricing, August 2026).

What InstantDM does on Instagram and Facebook that the other two treat as extras:

  • Keyword comment-to-DM on posts, Reels, lives, and ads.
  • Story reply automation.
  • Follow-gating: ask for a follow before the link goes out.
  • Collab post automation. InstantDM is built so both audiences on a collab can be automated. ManyChat's own help says collab comments belong to the original poster.
  • Schedule the Reel and attach the AutoDM in the same step, so the post does not go live while the flow is still sitting in drafts.
  • One-click copy of an Instagram automation onto the Facebook Page. Same keyword, Messenger instead of Instagram DM.
  • Meta Click-to-Message ads and ad-comment auto-replies on Trendsetter.
  • Viral Mode paces sends when a Reel spikes, instead of slamming Meta's app-level rate limit.

WhatsApp: not live. We will not score InstantDM as a WhatsApp platform. If WhatsApp is how you close this month, buy Respond.io (team) or ManyChat (funnel). If Instagram and Facebook are how you close this month, buy InstantDM. When WhatsApp ships, the Meta automations stay. You do not rebuild the comment flows in a new tool.

AI on InstantDM is AI comment replies and an in-flow AI node (ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini). It is not Respond.io's omnichannel AI Agent. Say that out loud before you compare columns.

Which tool wins which campaign brief?

Four briefs. If the product could not accept the brief natively, we scored it as a miss, not as a Zapier story.

Brief A: five agents, WhatsApp + Instagram + email, HubSpot sync, assignment rules. Respond.io on Growth. ManyChat's inbox is the wrong floor. InstantDM has tags and a lightweight CRM inside DMs, not a ten-seat supervisor dashboard. Respond.io wins A.

Brief B: comment PRICE on a Reel, DM the price list, ask them to follow first, collect an email. ManyChat and InstantDM. Respond.io's Auto Private Replies can DM everyone who comments on that Reel with one template. It does not do keyword, follow-gate, and email capture as a campaign. InstantDM wins B on price and on the follow-gate. ManyChat wins B if the next step is WhatsApp.

Brief C: WhatsApp restock broadcast to last month's buyers. Respond.io on Growth (broadcasts are not on Starter). ManyChat on Pro and up. InstantDM: no. Do not buy InstantDM for C today.

Brief D: Click-to-Message Instagram ad plus the same creative on a Facebook Page post. InstantDM (copy Instagram automation to Facebook, ads on Trendsetter). ManyChat can do both channels. Respond.io can inbox the resulting chats. The campaign setup is ManyChat or InstantDM. InstantDM stays $9.99 when the ad works. ManyChat counts the clickers as active contacts.

Respond.io vs ManyChat only makes sense when you name the brief first.

Do Respond.io and ManyChat both have Instagram if they both list it?

Both say Instagram. Respond.io means agents can read Instagram in the same queue as WhatsApp, and Auto Private Replies can DM commenters. ManyChat means a keyword on a specific post starts a multi-step flow. InstantDM means the same campaign mechanic, plus collab posts, next-post scheduling, Facebook copy, and Viral Mode. Saying "all three have Instagram" is how comparison tables get people hurt.

Both say automation. Respond.io means workflows on Growth: route, tag, assign, update HubSpot. ManyChat means a canvas of triggers, conditions, and broadcasts. InstantDM means comment, story, live, ad, and inbox triggers aimed at Meta.

Both say AI. Respond.io means AI Agents trained on your knowledge, on Growth, plus AI Assist on Starter. ManyChat means AI on marketing flows from Pro. InstantDM means comment replies and an AI node in a flow. None of those is the others. We scored 8 / 5 / 5 for that reason, not because the models are bad.

Both say WhatsApp. Respond.io is a BSP. ManyChat is a BSP with WhatsApp behind Pro. InstantDM is not, yet.

What does a viral month cost on Respond.io vs ManyChat?

Worked illustrations, not invoices. Monthly billing. WhatsApp Meta fees excluded, because both Respond.io and ManyChat pass those through.

Quiet support team, 800 conversations, five agents, WhatsApp-heavy

Respond.io Starter $99 covers the inbox. You do not get broadcasts or AI Agents. Growth at $199 is the first plan that matches how Respond.io sells itself. ManyChat is the wrong cart if the job is routing. InstantDM is idle.

Reel giveaway, 5,000 commenters, Instagram only

Respond.io Growth starts at 1,000 Monthly Active Contacts. If those 5,000 people reply (contacts only count after they reply to the private message), you are in overage at $12 per 100 on Growth. ManyChat Pro includes 2,500. The next 2,500 cost $0.05 each, so $39 + $125 = $164, or you jump to Business at $99 with 7,500 included. InstantDM stays $9.99. Instagram still rate-limits everyone. InstantDM's Viral Mode is the pacing layer. ManyChat documents a backend throttle on high volume. Respond.io does not advertise an Instagram-specific viral queue.

Instagram + Facebook ads in the same week, 2,500 engaged people

InstantDM Trendsetter $24.99. ManyChat Pro $39 if you stay under 2,500, then overage. Respond.io Growth $199 plus MAC math. If WhatsApp is not in the week, the $199 inbox is the expensive way to send a comment DM.

Is a channel checkbox the same as a campaign?

No. The table below is the job-level view. The full channel matrix is in "Which channels does Respond.io support vs ManyChat?" above.

Which is cheaper, Respond.io or ManyChat?

Engaged people / month InstantDM ManyChat (monthly, cheapest fitting plan) Respond.io (monthly)
250 $9.99 Essential $17 Starter $99 (inbox only)
1,000 $9.99 Pro $39 Growth $199 (1,000 MACs)
2,500 $9.99 Pro $39 Growth $199 + MAC overage if you exceed 1,000
7,500 $9.99 Business $99 Growth/Advanced, MAC package or overage
25,000 $9.99 Advanced $199 Talk to sales

InstantDM is cheaper from the first paid month if the job is Meta campaigns. That does not make it the right buy for a WhatsApp support floor. Respond.io Starter looking "only" 10x InstantDM is a trap: Starter has no workflows. The plan that competes with ManyChat's builder is Growth.

Yearly at 2,500 Instagram-engaged people, Meta only:

  • InstantDM Legend Pro: $9.99 × 12 = $119.88
  • ManyChat Pro annual: $29 × 12 = $348
  • Respond.io Growth annual: $159 × 12 = $1,908

InstantDM saves about $228/year versus ManyChat Pro and about $1,788/year versus Respond.io Growth, in that narrow brief. Add WhatsApp, five agents, and HubSpot, and Respond.io's $1,908 starts to look like operations software instead of a tax.

What breaks first on Respond.io vs ManyChat?

Respond.io setup is a workspace, channel connects, roles, and (if you paid Growth) a workflow. We would not call Starter a campaign tool. Handoff is the product: assignment, notes, SLA. What breaks first on Starter is the missing builder. What breaks first on Growth is the MAC package the week a campaign works, plus Meta's WhatsApp bill, which was never in the SaaS price.

ManyChat setup is Meta login, a template, a keyword. A first comment trigger can fire the same day. Handoff is a social inbox with a few seats. What breaks first is the contact ceiling after a post works. The flow still runs. The invoice changes.

InstantDM setup is Meta OAuth, a keyword, a DM. You can attach the same automation to a scheduled post so the Reel and the flow go live together. Handoff stays in Instagram and Facebook with tags and lead fields. What breaks first is Instagram's own rate limits, not a contact meter. Viral Mode is how we stay under Meta's app-level cap. We do not sell "unlimited past what Instagram allows."

What will you regret if you pick the wrong one?

Regret Respond.io if you bought Starter because the homepage said Instagram and you run comment campaigns. You bought an inbox. Keyword funnels, follow-gates, collab posts, and schedule-with-AutoDM are not why that product exists. You will also regret Growth if the only channel that makes money is Instagram and you are one person. $199 is a lot of money for a Reel.

Regret ManyChat if you bought it for a ten-agent WhatsApp floor, or if you launched a viral post without modeling active contacts. The product works. The bill is the surprise. You will also regret it if you are a collaborator on posts, not the original poster, and you expected the comments to be yours.

Regret InstantDM if you needed WhatsApp this month, or a shared inbox with assignment rules and HubSpot as the source of truth. We will not pretend. WhatsApp is coming. It is not here.

Regret buying only one of Respond.io and ManyChat if you have both a support floor and a Reel calendar. That is two jobs. Two tools is the honest stack. A cheaper stack for Meta campaigns plus a later WhatsApp channel is InstantDM now, Respond.io or ManyChat later, instead of paying Growth from day one for comments.

Is Respond.io better than ManyChat for a support team?

A B2C team in a WhatsApp-first market (APAC, LatAm, Middle East), five or more people on the floor, HubSpot or Salesforce already in the stack, Instagram as one more channel rather than the campaign engine. Budget Growth, not Starter. Model Monthly Active Contacts the way you would model seats.

Is ManyChat better than Respond.io for Instagram funnels?

Instagram plus WhatsApp plus SMS in one canvas. You live in tags and broadcasts. You will watch the contact invoice. Pro is the first plan that matches how ManyChat is sold, because that is where WhatsApp and AI show up.

Is InstantDM better than Respond.io or ManyChat for Instagram and Facebook?

Instagram and Facebook are the campaign. Comment-to-DM, Stories, lives, collab posts, Facebook copy, ads on Trendsetter. Official API. Flat $9.99. You want the bill to stay still when a Reel works. You can wait on WhatsApp, or you will add it on InstantDM when it ships instead of migrating the Meta flows.

Who should buy Respond.io, ManyChat, or InstantDM?

  • WhatsApp-first support/sales team, many agents → Respond.io Growth.
  • IG + WhatsApp + SMS marketing funnels → ManyChat Pro or Business.
  • Instagram + Facebook + Meta ads, flat bill → InstantDM.
  • Website widget + humans → Tidio, see Tidio vs ManyChat.
  • Docs-trained site bot → Chatbase, see Chatbase vs ManyChat.
  • Site + comments → two tools. Inbox on the site, InstantDM on Meta.

What would we buy with our own money?

A five-person support team whose customers live on WhatsApp: Respond.io Growth, and we would put MAC and WhatsApp fees in the same spreadsheet as salaries.

A creator whose ads click to Instagram and who cross-posts the Reel to Facebook: InstantDM. Trendsetter if ads and Viral Mode matter.

A brand that already runs ManyChat flows across WhatsApp and Instagram and likes the canvas: stay on ManyChat, and model contacts before every launch. Switching to InstantDM only pays off if WhatsApp can wait.

Respond.io vs ManyChat is a real query. It is a bad query if you treat them as clones. One is an operations inbox. One is a campaign builder. InstantDM is the Meta specialist in the middle, with WhatsApp next.

Respond.io and ManyChat are trademarks of their owners. InstantDM is not affiliated with them.

What does a week on Respond.io vs ManyChat actually look like?

Monday on Respond.io is the workspace, WhatsApp BSP, Instagram connect, and agent roles. Tuesday you notice Starter cannot broadcast or run workflows. Wednesday a customer comments LINK on a Reel. Auto Private Replies can DM them a template. The follow-gate and the email field are not in that tab. Thursday finance asks what a Monthly Active Contact will cost if the campaign works. Friday the WhatsApp top-up is a second invoice. That week is a good Respond.io week if the floor is the business. It is an expensive week if Instagram is the business.

Monday on ManyChat is Meta login, a template, a keyword. Tuesday comments become DMs. Wednesday WhatsApp is locked until Pro. Thursday the Reel works and the contact count jumps. Friday the invoice is the meeting. That week is a good ManyChat week if social plus WhatsApp is the business. It is a loud week if you only needed Instagram.

Monday on InstantDM is OAuth and a keyword. Tuesday the same PRICE comment sends the list. Wednesday you copy the automation to the Facebook Page. Thursday you look at ads and Trendsetter. Friday the bill is still $9.99. No WhatsApp. That week is a good InstantDM week if Meta is the business. It is the wrong week if WhatsApp or a ten-seat inbox is the business.
