You typed Tidio vs ManyChat because both show up under chat marketing and they are not the same product. Tidio is a website live inbox with Lyro and Flows. ManyChat is Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and SMS automation. We tested and scored them on the same rubric. Tidio already ranks a page at tidio.com/vs/manychat. They will tell you to stay on Tidio. We will tell you which inbox you actually bought.
Full disclosure: this is InstantDM's blog, so weigh our take accordingly. InstantDM is not in the head-to-head. It is the Meta row when you want comment-to-DM without a contact meter. Prices from public pages, 16 August 2026. Vendors change plans without notice.
TL;DR
- Tidio scored 55 / 80 on a website-first card. Buy it for a store bubble, humans on shift, and Shopify actions on Growth.
- ManyChat scored 45 / 80 on that same website card, 8 / 10 on Meta social. Buy it for Instagram plus WhatsApp plus SMS. You pay per active contact.
- InstantDM scored 52 / 80 here and 10 / 10 on Meta. Buy it when the campaign is Instagram or Facebook only and you want $9.99 flat.
| Tidio | ManyChat | InstantDM (Meta only) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Our score | 55 / 80 (website card) | 45 / 80 website / 8 on social | 52 / 80 / 10 on Meta |
| Buy it for | Website live chat + Lyro + Flows | IG + WhatsApp + SMS campaigns | Instagram, Facebook, Meta ads |
| Skip it if | The leads are Reel comments | You only needed a site widget | You need WhatsApp or a website bubble |
| Paid from | Starter $24.17/mo annual | Contact tiers after 25 free | Legend Pro $9.99/mo flat |
How we tested and scored
We tested and scored Tidio and ManyChat the same week as Chatbase vs Tidio, 16 August 2026.
- Walked first-run setup: Tidio widget, ManyChat automation.
- Read tidio.com/pricing and manychat.com/pricing, plus Tidio's own vs page.
- Mapped meters: Tidio's three sliders versus ManyChat active contacts.
- Checked Instagram claims on those pages, not on directories.
- Scored eight criteria, 1–10. Modeled three volume bills.
We did not run a 10,000-thread accuracy bake-off. The hero is both logos with VS in the middle. Screenshots below are each homepage from the same day.
The scorecard we used
| Criterion | What we tested | Tidio | ManyChat | InstantDM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Setup to first reply | Signup to a working widget or comment flow | 8 | 7 | 8 |
| AI on your content | Lyro / ManyChat AI / comment replies | 6 | 5 | 5 |
| Live human inbox | Visitor list, seats, takeover | 9 | 6 | 6 |
| Pricing predictability | Can finance forecast next month | 4 | 4 | 9 |
| Website chat marketing | Widget, Flows, product-page triggers | 8 | 2 | 2 |
| Meta / Instagram fit | Comment-to-DM, stories, ads | 5 | 8 | 10 |
| Shopify / store actions | Order lookup inside the chat | 8 | 5 | 7 |
| Extra channels | WhatsApp, SMS, email, Messenger | 7 | 8 | 5 |
| Total | 55 | 45 | 52 |
Tidio wins the website pair by ten points. Almost all of that is the widget and Shopify. ManyChat takes Meta social and extra channels. InstantDM takes pricing and Instagram ads. If you average them as "chat marketing tools," you buy the wrong inbox.
How those numbers were earned, criterion by criterion. Setup: both are fast; Tidio's snippet is slightly less ceremony than a Meta connect. AI: Lyro is a real support model with its own bill; ManyChat AI sits on marketing flows; InstantDM is comment replies. Inbox: Tidio is a floor with 10 seats; ManyChat and InstantDM hand off inside social. Predictability: Tidio's three meters and ManyChat's contacts both scored 4; InstantDM's two public prices scored 9. Website: Tidio 8, the other two cannot pretend. Meta: InstantDM 10, ManyChat 8, Tidio 5 because an inbox is not a keyword. Shopify: Tidio Growth native actions 8, InstantDM's Shopify app 7, ManyChat templates 5. Extra channels: ManyChat 8 for WhatsApp and SMS, Tidio 7 for listed integrations, InstantDM 5 because Meta is the product, not a suite.
We kept the same eight criteria as Chatbase vs Tidio so you can compare posts without learning a new rubric each time.
Tidio: what we tested

Tidio sells Customer Service, Lyro, and Flows. Starter $24.17/month billed annually includes 100 billable conversations (a human reply or a human-started chat), 50 Lyro conversations as a one-off, and 100 Flows visitors. Growth starts at $49.17 from 250 billable chats and is where native Shopify actions show up. Lyro as its own product starts at $32.50/month from 50 AI conversations. Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp are listed as integrations. Ten seats on self-serve.
A billable conversation, in Tidio's FAQ, only counts when a human agent replies. Lyro replies do not count as billable human chats. Fair. Still a cap. Starter's 50 Lyro chats are lifetime on that plan, not monthly.
We scored the live inbox 9 and website chat 8. Meta scored 5 because Instagram here is a connected inbox. Tidio's vs page argues they beat ManyChat on AI and billing. For a store widget, we agree Tidio is the closer product. For a Reel campaign, that page is answering the wrong question.
Pick Tidio if a person has to see the visitor on your site. Skip it if last month's leads commented "LINK."
ManyChat: what we tested

ManyChat is built for conversations on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, TikTok, SMS, and email. Comment-to-DM and story replies are the product, not an add-on row. There is no Tidio-style website visitor list. Landbot's August 2026 ManyChat alternatives post, citing ManyChat's public plans, listed Free at 25 active contacts, then Essential, Pro, Business, and Advanced as the list grows, with WhatsApp starting on Pro. Confirm current numbers on manychat.com/pricing before you budget. Active contact means anyone who sends or receives a message that month. Automations that touch people grow the bill.
We scored Meta 8 because the campaign triggers are real. Website 2 because the widget job is missing. Pricing 4 because contact overages are the whole story creators complain about. We already wrote ManyChat alternatives for that math.
Pick ManyChat if WhatsApp and Instagram share the funnel. Skip it if you only needed a site bubble, or if you only needed Meta and hate per-contact billing.
The chat-marketing split they both miss

Tidio fights for the website. ManyChat fights for social plus WhatsApp. A lot of paid traffic in 2026 is still a Reel or a Click-to-Message ad with no WhatsApp and no website visit. InstantDM is an official Meta Business Partner on the official Instagram Graph API. Legend Pro $9.99/month, unlimited contacts. Trendsetter $24.99 adds follow-ups and ads. Free: 500 automations/month plus a 7-day full trial (instantdm.com/pricing, August 2026).
AI on InstantDM is AI comment replies, not a multi-turn AI agent. Say that out loud before you compare it to Lyro.

What we actually ran as test campaigns
We gave both tools the same four briefs. If the product could not accept the brief, we stopped and scored a 2, not a 6 with an asterisk.
Brief A: product-page widget. Visitor is on a Shopify product page. Bot offers size help. Human can take over. Tidio did this on Starter/Growth. ManyChat had no equivalent visitor list. InstantDM had no widget. Tidio wins A cleanly.
Brief B: comment COURSE on a Reel. ManyChat ran it. InstantDM ran it. Tidio's Instagram row did not become a keyword funnel. Tidio's vs page does not mention this brief. That is the tell.
Brief C: WhatsApp restock list. ManyChat. Tidio as an inbox, not a broadcast engine. InstantDM: no.
Brief D: Click-to-Message ad. ManyChat or InstantDM. Tidio does not buy that ad type.
Chat marketing is the category. The briefs are the job. Tidio vs ManyChat only makes sense when you name the brief first.
Features that look the same on a homepage and are not
Both say Instagram. Tidio means you can read Instagram messages in a shared inbox if you connect the account. ManyChat means comment triggers, story triggers, and DMs as the campaign surface. Saying "both have Instagram" is how comparison tables get people hurt.
Both say AI. Tidio means Lyro, billed as its own conversation meter, trained on support content. ManyChat means AI on marketing flows. InstantDM means AI comment replies. None of those is the others. We scored AI 6 / 5 / 5 for that reason, not because the models are "bad."
Both say Shopify. Tidio Growth has native store actions in the chat. ManyChat has ecommerce templates and integrations. InstantDM has a Shopify app aimed at DMs, checkout, and cart recovery inside Instagram. Different floor, same logo on a slide.
Three volume bills we modeled
Worked illustrations, not invoices.
Quiet store site, 80 human chats, no ads
Tidio Starter $24.17 covers 100 billable chats. ManyChat is the wrong cart. InstantDM is idle.
Reel giveaway, 3,000 commenters
Tidio does not run that campaign. ManyChat turns those people into active contacts and can jump a tier. InstantDM stays $9.99 or uses the free 500 if the test is small.
Shopify + Instagram comments in the same week
Two tools. Tidio Growth for the site. InstantDM or ManyChat for comments. Buying only Tidio because the pricing page lists Instagram is how comments sit unanswered.
Tidio's own vs page versus what we scored
Tidio.com/vs/manychat says Tidio wins on AI, support, and transparent pricing. For a support widget, Lyro is a deeper AI layer than ManyChat's marketing automation. We scored that. We also scored the hole they do not advertise: ManyChat still owns comment-to-DM and WhatsApp broadcasts. Transparent pricing is a stretch when Tidio bills three meters and ManyChat bills contacts. InstantDM is the only flat unlimited-contact option in this table.
Setup, handoff, and what breaks first
Tidio setup is a snippet on the site and a bubble. We had a test widget answering in one sitting. Handoff is the product: visitor list, assignment on Growth, 10 seats. What breaks first is Starter's 100 billable chats and the 50 lifetime Lyro chats. Teams think they bought AI. They bought a sample.
ManyChat setup is connect Instagram through Meta, build a flow, set a keyword. We had a comment trigger firing the same day. Handoff is a shared inbox, not a website visitor list. What breaks first is the contact ceiling after a post works. The flow still runs. The invoice changes.
InstantDM setup is Meta OAuth, a keyword, a DM. Handoff is inside Instagram with lead fields attached. What breaks first is Instagram's own rate limits, not our contact meter. We do not sell "unlimited past what Instagram allows."
Channel by channel
| Job | Tidio | ManyChat | InstantDM |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website widget | Yes | No | No |
| Comment-to-DM | No | Yes | Yes |
| Story replies | No | Yes | Yes |
| Click-to-Message ads | No | Yes | Trendsetter |
| WhatsApp broadcasts | Inbox, not the campaign engine | Yes, higher plans | No |
| SMS | No | Yes | No |
| Shopify in the chat | Growth+ | Integrations / templates | Shopify app for DMs |
What you will regret
Regret Tidio if you bought it because the pricing page said Instagram and you run comment campaigns. You will staff an inbox that does not start the funnel.
Regret ManyChat if you bought it for a website bubble or if you launched a viral post without modeling contacts. The product works. The bill is the surprise.
Regret InstantDM if you needed WhatsApp or a site widget. We will not pretend.
Regret buying only one of Tidio and ManyChat if you have both a store site and a Reel calendar. That is two inboxes. Two tools is the honest stack. See top chatbot platforms for marketing campaigns.
When Tidio is the better buy
A Shopify store, two people who can glance at a phone, Flows on the product page. Budget Growth plus Lyro before you fall in love with Starter's 100 chats.
When ManyChat is the better buy
WhatsApp catalogs, SMS, Instagram, and Messenger in one builder. You already think in tags and broadcasts. You will model contacts, not ignore them.
When InstantDM is the better buy
Meta only. Comment-to-DM, stories, ads on Trendsetter. Official API. Flat $9.99. No WhatsApp. No site bubble.
Who should buy which
- Website widget + humans → Tidio.
- Instagram + WhatsApp + SMS → ManyChat.
- Instagram + Facebook + ads, flat bill → InstantDM.
- Docs AI on a site, no social campaign → Chatbase, see Chatbase vs Tidio.
- Site + comments → Tidio plus InstantDM.
What we would buy with our own money
A store with a site and no Reels strategy: Tidio Growth. A creator whose ads click to Instagram: InstantDM. A brand that lives in WhatsApp: ManyChat, and we would watch the contact invoice every month. Tidio vs ManyChat is a real query because Tidio published it. It is a bad query if you treat them as clones.
Tidio, ManyChat, and Chatbase are trademarks of their owners. InstantDM is not affiliated with them.
A week on Tidio, then a week on ManyChat
Monday on Tidio is the snippet, the bubble, operating hours, and a Flow on the product page. Tuesday you notice Starter's 100 chats and wonder if Lyro's 50 lifetime answers will survive a sale. Wednesday a customer comments on a Reel. The Tidio inbox does not start that conversation. Thursday you add Lyro because the homepage said AI. Friday finance asks why there are three sliders. That week is a good Tidio week if the site is the business. It is a wasted week if Instagram is the business.
Monday on ManyChat is Meta login, a template, a keyword. Tuesday the first comments turn into DMs. Wednesday WhatsApp is the next ticket and you find it locked behind a higher plan. Thursday a post works and the contact count jumps. Friday the invoice is the meeting. That week is a good ManyChat week if social plus WhatsApp is the business. It is an expensive week if you only needed Instagram.
Monday on InstantDM is OAuth and a keyword. Tuesday comments get the link. Wednesday you turn on story replies. Thursday you look at ads and Trendsetter. Friday the bill is still $9.99. That week is a good InstantDM week if Meta is the business. It is the wrong week if the site or WhatsApp is the business.
We tested and scored after sitting in those weeks, not after copying Tidio's vs page. Use the platforms list if you still need the aisle. Use this post if the aisle is already Tidio versus ManyChat. If the aisle is website AI versus Tidio, that is a different pair and a different scorecard. Do not reuse these 55 / 45 / 52 numbers on that pair. We already scored Chatbase vs Tidio on its own card. Different brief, different totals. Tidio vs ManyChat is website versus social. Chatbase vs Tidio is two website tools. Keep the cards apart when you quote the scores. Mixing them is how a Tidio 55 becomes a ManyChat argument it did not win.
If the inbox is Instagram, start InstantDM free. Next pairs: Chatbase vs ManyChat, Chatbase vs Chatfuel.
