The two templates that matter here are Custom keywords (reply to a Messenger message that contains a keyword) and Comment to message (Meta's wording: "Reply to a comment that contains specific hashtags"). And the starting price is not what you pay once you grow: ManyChat bills by active contacts, CommentGuard by comment volume, respond.io by seats. InstantDM and Chatfuel stay flat.

What do Meta's rules allow a Facebook auto reply tool to do?
Four numbers govern every tool on this page: 7 days, one message, 24 hours, and 30 seconds. All four come from Meta's developer docs.
- Private Replies: one message, within 7 days. Meta: "The message must be sent within 7 days from when the post or comment was created" and "Only one message can be sent to the person who commented." The conversation continues only "when a person responds to the private message" (Private Replies documentation).
- The 24-hour window. "Businesses have up to 24 hours to respond to a user. Messages sent within the 24-hour window may contain promotional content." Outside it, only tagged non-promotional messages are allowed; a Human Agent tag covers manual replies within 7 days (Messenger Platform policy).
- The 30-second rule. "Automated bots must respond to user input within 30 seconds." Same policy page.
- Business Suite's own limits. Up to 5 keywords or phrases per custom automation, case-sensitive exact match, a 15-minute delay unless you reply first, and template automations take priority over custom keyword ones (Meta Business Help Center). Turning on Meta Business Agent pauses your existing automations.
Pages only. Meta's messaging permissions attach to a Facebook Page, which is why no tool here, Meta's included, automates a personal profile or a Group. If your Page is not linked to your Instagram account yet, connect your Facebook Page to Instagram first; InstantDM requires the link. Meta Business Suite — best free option, and honest about its limits
Meta Business Suite is free, native, and the right first stop for any Page. Instant reply greets first-time messengers, Away message covers off hours, and the FAQ, Location, Contact information, and Hours templates answer the questions most Page inboxes get. You connect nothing and pay nothing.
What it does for comments and keywords. Custom keywords answers Messenger messages that contain a keyword you set. Comment to message DMs anyone whose comment contains a hashtag you choose. Both are desktop only, per Meta's desktop automations page.
Where it falls short. Five keywords or phrases per automation. Case-sensitive, so "Price" and "price" burn two of your five on one word. The reply goes out after 15 minutes unless you answer first. Fine for an FAQ, useless for a "comment LINK" funnel where the person expects the link now. And there is no public reply under the comment.
Pros: free; native; template answers for hours, location, and contact info; unanswered-message flags for small teams. Cons: five case-sensitive keywords; 15-minute delay; desktop only; no public comment reply; no flows, buttons, or lead capture.
Choose Meta Business Suite if your auto replies are informational and a 15-minute delay costs you nothing. Its edge over InstantDM: it costs nothing and never asks you to authorise a third-party app.
InstantDM — best for comment-to-Messenger at a flat price
InstantDM is the lowest-priced paid tool here that sends a public comment reply and a private Messenger message from the same trigger, on Facebook Page posts and Reels, for $9.99/mo flat on Legend Pro (instantdm.com/pricing, August 2026). It is an official Meta Business Partner. We build it, so read this as the maker's view.
What it does on Facebook. Keyword triggers per post or Reel, or an any-comment trigger. A public reply under the comment and a private Messenger DM, together or separately. Keyword replies to inbound Messenger messages with text, buttons, and images, plus a welcome message. The same Flow Editor as Instagram for multi-step sequences. And a "Copy from Instagram" button that clones an existing Instagram automation to your Facebook Page and lets you edit the message for the Facebook audience (feature page). Pricing. Free plan with 500 automations a month, no card. Legend Pro $9.99/mo, Trendsetter $24.99/mo. The price does not move with contacts or comment volume. Where it loses. No WhatsApp. If you need Messenger and WhatsApp in one tool, ManyChat, Chatfuel, or respond.io win outright. It does not cover Facebook Groups or personal profiles, a Meta limitation but still a limit. It does not automate Facebook Stories, and ad-comment automation is not listed on its feature page (InstantDM's pricing FAQ says ad campaigns are covered, so confirm with support), so agencies moderating paid campaigns should look at NapoleonCat or CommentGuard. The AI writes comment replies and does not hold multi-turn conversations.

ManyChat is the most complete option if your funnel spans Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, SMS, and email. Its Facebook Comments trigger is one of the oldest in the category, and it can "Send the commenter a DM", "Post a public reply under their comment", and "Auto-like their comment", on all comments or only on keyword matches (ManyChat blog). It is a Meta Business Partner.
Pricing changed in March 2026. ManyChat's pricing page now lists five tiers billed by active contacts: Free with 25 active contacts a month, any two channels, and up to four active automations; Essential at $14/mo for 250 contacts; Pro at $29/mo for 2,500; Business at $69/mo for 7,500; Advanced at $139/mo for 25,000. Overage on Pro is $0.05 per extra contact monthly (manychat.com/pricing, checked August 2026; confirm the live grid before you buy). Older articles quoting 1,000 free contacts describe the pre-March model.
Where it loses. The free plan's 25 active contacts is small. A single post that pulls 60 keyword comments blows through it in a day, and a good week pushes you past Essential's 250. Every commenter who gets a DM becomes an active contact, so the bill tracks your engagement. A Page that only needs Facebook and Instagram pays for channels it does not use. Chatfuel Light is free and covers Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp automations with a flow builder, shared inbox, and templates, no card required (chatfuel.com/pricing, August 2026). That is the widest free plan here by channel count. Its Comments Autoreply can "Send public replies to user comments or private responses through Facebook Messenger", on all posts or specific posts, with keyword triggers and a delay you set (Chatfuel blog). Chatfuel is a Meta Business Partner.
Pricing. Two plans: Chatfuel Light, free, and AI PRO at $49/mo (29% off yearly), which adds an AI sales manager, an AI knowledge base, broadcasts, and lead-qualification funnels. The pricing page says "Usage limits apply" without printing the numbers, so open the plan-limits sheet before relying on the free tier for volume.
Where it loses. The jump from $0 to $49 is the steepest on this list; there is no $10 to $20 rung. And the product is built around bots and AI selling, so if all you want is "comment LINK, get a link", you are configuring a bot platform to do one small thing.

NapoleonCat — best for agency moderation across many Pages
NapoleonCat is a social inbox and moderation suite. Its Auto-moderation rules are the deepest comment-handling engine on this list. Rules fire on "keywords, sentiment, specific posts, AI Assistant tags", 24/7, and can reply publicly, send a private message, hide, delete, or assign the comment to a person. They also run on "comments under your Facebook ads (as well as Instagram and TikTok ads)", with several reply variants per rule that rotate randomly (napoleoncat.com, August 2026). Messenger conversations land in the same inbox, so a rule on private messages works the same way.
Pricing. Standard is $67/mo billed annually or $89 monthly, with 2 users and 5 profile slots. Pro is $82/mo annually or $109 monthly and adds the Social Inbox. Expert is $187/mo annually or $249 monthly with 25 users and 10 profiles. Enterprise starts at $465/mo. Auto-moderation is not on Standard; budget for Pro at minimum and confirm the plan grid, because the feature rows are easy to misread (napoleoncat.com/pricing, August 2026). 14-day trial of everything, no card.
Where it loses. Price. The plan with auto-moderation costs eight times InstantDM's Legend Pro, and a solo creator who wants one keyword funnel pays for seats, profiles, analytics, and a publisher they will never open. There is no free plan.

Where it loses. It is a moderation product first. A creator's keyword-to-DM funnel is possible, but its centre of gravity is hiding spam and drafting replies on ad comments. It is also the only tool here whose Facebook comment feature is private-only by design: it will "automatically reply to comments on your Facebook posts" by sending "a private message to the commenter over Facebook Messenger", under any post or a specific post. No public reply, and it "does not message users who commented before using this feature" (respond.io, updated June 2026).
Pricing. Starter $79/mo with 5 users ($12 per extra user), Growth $159/mo with 10 users, Advanced $279/mo, Enterprise custom. A 7-day trial with no card gives you Growth features except broadcasts (respond.io/pricing, August 2026). Channels include WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and email.
Where it loses. $79/mo is the most expensive entry point on this list, and what it buys is a support inbox rather than a marketing funnel. There is no public comment reply and no free plan.

Which free tier is best depends on what runs out first. If one Reel does numbers, ManyChat's 25 contacts go first, then Chatfuel's undisclosed limits, then InstantDM's 500 automations. Business Suite has no volume cap, but every reply waits 15 minutes.
One thing no tool does for any price: reply to a comment older than 7 days, or send a second private message to someone who never answered the first. Meta's Private Replies rule has no paid tier.
What should you check before you turn on a Facebook auto reply?
Four things, in this order, ten minutes total, Business Suite included.
- You are automating a Page, not a profile or a Group. If the tool cannot see your Page, it is usually not linked to the right Business portfolio or Instagram account.
- Your keyword matches how people type. Business Suite is case-sensitive; most third-party tools are not, but check. Use one short word ("LINK") and tell people what to type in the caption.
- Your private message stands alone. You get one. It has to carry the link or the answer, because there is no second message unless the person replies.
- You tested it from another account. Comment, wait, check the public reply and the Messenger thread. Then test a Reel; post and Reel triggers are separate in several tools.
Keep your account safe. Send automated Messenger messages only as replies to something the person did, never as cold outreach, and stay inside Meta's messaging windows. Tools on the official API are built to keep you inside those lines. No tool, ours included, can promise a Page will never be restricted.
