How to Connect & Disconnect Facebook Page
Link your Facebook Page to InstantDM for Facebook post automation, Messenger flows, and improved Instagram comment delivery.
Why Connect a Facebook Page?
Your Instagram Professional account is linked to a Facebook Page behind the scenes — that's how Meta's API works. Connecting your Facebook Page to InstantDM unlocks additional features and improves reliability:
- Facebook Post Automation — Run comment-to-DM automations on Facebook Page posts, not just Instagram.
- Messenger Automation — Send automated messages via Facebook Messenger when users interact with your Page.
- Better Comment Delivery — Facebook Page connection provides a more reliable webhook for Instagram comment events.
- Unified Dashboard — See both Instagram and Facebook automation stats in one place.
When Facebook Page Is Required vs. Optional
| Feature | Facebook Page Required? |
|---|---|
| Instagram Post Automation (Comment-to-DM) | No — works with Instagram connection only |
| Instagram Story Automation | No — works with Instagram connection only |
| Facebook Post Automation | Yes — requires Facebook Page connection |
| Messenger Automation | Yes — requires Facebook Page connection |
| Improved comment webhook reliability | Recommended but not required |
| Meta Ads (CTDM) Automation | Yes — requires Facebook Page connection |
Step-by-Step: Connecting Your Facebook Page
- Log in to InstantDM and navigate to Settings in the sidebar.
- Scroll to the Facebook section.
- Click Connect Facebook Page. A new window opens with Facebook's OAuth login.
- Log in to the Facebook account that owns or administers the Page linked to your Instagram account.
- Review the requested permissions and click Continue. Grant all permissions — partial permissions will cause features to fail.
- Select the Facebook Page you want to connect from the list. Choose the one linked to your Instagram Professional account.
- Click Done to complete the connection.
- You'll be redirected back to InstantDM. The Facebook Page name should appear in Settings with a green connected status.
Required Permissions
During the OAuth flow, InstantDM requests the following Meta permissions:
| Permission | What It's Used For |
|---|---|
pages_manage_posts | Read and manage comments on your Facebook Page posts |
pages_messaging | Send and receive messages via Facebook Messenger |
pages_read_engagement | Access engagement data (likes, comments, shares) on your Page posts |
pages_show_list | Display your Pages during the connection flow |
All permissions are standard Meta Business permissions. InstantDM does not request access to your personal Facebook profile or friends list.
How to Verify Your Connection
- Go to Settings in InstantDM.
- Check the Facebook section — your Page name should be displayed with a green status indicator.
- Navigate to Facebook Messenger in the sidebar — you should see your Page's Messenger inbox.
- If the connection is working, you're all set.
How to Disconnect Your Facebook Page
- Go to Settings in InstantDM.
- In the Facebook section, click Disconnect.
- Confirm the disconnection when prompted.
- Your Facebook Page is now disconnected. Instagram automation continues to work independently.
Note: Disconnecting your Facebook Page disables all Facebook-specific features (FB post automation, Messenger automation). Your Instagram automations are not affected.
How to Reconnect or Switch to a Different Page
- Disconnect the current Facebook Page (see steps above).
- Click Connect Facebook Page again.
- During the OAuth flow, select the new Page you want to connect.
- Complete the authorization and verify the new connection in Settings.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Page not showing during connection | Ensure you're an admin of the Page and it's linked to your Instagram Professional account. Check in Facebook Settings → Pages. |
| Permissions missing | Disconnect and reconnect, making sure to grant all requested permissions. Don't skip any permission checkboxes. |
| Token expired | Facebook tokens can expire after password changes or security events. Disconnect and reconnect to generate a fresh token. |
| Wrong Page connected | Disconnect the current Page and reconnect, selecting the correct Page during the OAuth flow. |
| "Page not eligible" error | The Page must be published (not unpublished/draft) and linked to an Instagram Professional account (Business or Creator). |
Tips & Best Practices
- Connect early. Even if you only plan to use Instagram automation, connecting your Facebook Page improves webhook reliability and gives you access to more features later.
- Use the same Facebook account. Connect with the Facebook account that administers both your Page and your Instagram Professional account for the smoothest experience.
- Grant all permissions. Skipping permissions during OAuth causes features to fail silently. Always grant everything InstantDM requests.
- Reconnect after password changes. If you change your Facebook password, your token may expire. Reconnect to refresh it.
- Check Page-Instagram link. In Facebook Settings → Pages → your Page → Instagram, verify your Instagram account is properly linked.
