Button Card Template
Send rich, interactive DM cards with cover images, titles, and tappable buttons that drive action.
What Is the Button Card Template?
The Button Card template sends a visually rich message in Instagram DMs. Instead of plain text, the user sees a card with:
- An optional cover image at the top
- A title (bold headline)
- An optional subtitle (description text)
- Up to 3 tappable buttons
This is the most engaging DM format for driving clicks, signups, and conversions. Buttons are impossible to miss — they sit right below the card and users just tap to take action.
How It Looks in Instagram DMs

Card Layouts
InstantDM automatically picks the best card layout based on what you provide:
| What You Provide | Card Layout |
|---|---|
| Image + Title + Subtitle + Buttons | Full generic card with image header |
| Title + Subtitle + Buttons (no image) | Generic card without image |
| Title only + Buttons (no image, no subtitle) | Compact button template (text + buttons) |
| Subtitle only + Buttons (no image, no title) | Compact button template (text + buttons) |
Tip: Adding a cover image significantly increases tap-through rates. Use eye-catching visuals that match your content.
How to Create a Button Card
- Open your post automation panel (click Automate on any post).
- In the DM Reply section, select Button as the reply type.
- Cover Image (optional): Upload an image or paste a publicly accessible URL. Recommended size: 1200×628px (1.91:1 ratio). Supported formats: JPG, PNG, WebP.
- Title: Enter the card headline. Keep it short and action-oriented (e.g., "🎁 Your Free Guide Is Ready").
- Subtitle (optional): Add a description below the title. Use this for context or a brief pitch.
- Buttons: Add 1–3 buttons (see button types below).
- Click Save to activate.
Button Types
Each button has a title (the text users see) and an action type:
| Type | Action | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Web URL | Opens a link in the browser | Landing pages, product pages, signup forms, Calendly links |
| Postback | Triggers the next step in your flow | Multi-step conversations, branching logic, quizzes |
Web URL Buttons
When a user taps a Web URL button, it opens the link in their browser. InstantDM automatically tracks clicks on these buttons (with link tracking enabled) so you can see how many people tapped each button.
You can also disable tracking for specific buttons if you want to use the raw URL (e.g., for deep links or app URLs).
Postback Buttons
Postback buttons don't open a link — they send a signal back to your automation. In the Flow Editor, postback buttons connect to the next node in your flow, enabling branching conversations.
Example: A card with 3 postback buttons like "Pricing", "Features", "Book a Demo" — each button leads to a different branch of your flow with different content.

Title: What are you looking for?
Subtitle: Tap below and I'll send you the right info.
Button 1: [Postback] "💰 Pricing"
Button 2: [Postback] "🎯 Features"
Button 3: [Postback] "📞 Book a Demo" Best Practices
- Always add a cover image. Cards with images get 2–3x more taps than text-only cards.
- Keep titles under 80 characters. Long titles get truncated on mobile.
- Use action-oriented button text. "Download Now", "Shop Collection", "Get Started" — not "Click Here".
- Limit to 2–3 buttons. Too many choices = decision paralysis. One primary CTA + one secondary works best.
- Use postback buttons for conversations. If you want to continue the conversation in DMs, use postback buttons connected to your flow.
