Short answer
Click your profile card at the bottom of the sidebar to open Switch Account. Expand your main account and click Create sub-account, then connect that account's Instagram. Each account has its own connection, plan and credits unless you are on a multi-account plan. Click any row to switch.
Before you start
- Each InstantDM account can hold one Instagram account. A second Instagram needs a second InstantDM account: either a client account (sub-account) under your main account, or a separate InstantDM login.
- Each account has its own Instagram connection, plan and credits, unless your main account is on a multi-account plan. See Which plan do I need for several accounts?
- An Instagram account can belong to only one InstantDM account. If you connect it somewhere else, it moves there and its automations stop in the old place.
Steps
- Click your profile card at the bottom of the sidebar (your @username). The Switch Account popup opens on the Accounts tab.
- Expand your main account with the arrow (Show sub-accounts). If you see “Tap to load”, click it to load the list.
- Click Create sub-account. It shows how many are left on your plan.
- You’ll see that InstantDM switches you into the new, empty account. It shows “Not Connected”.
- Connect the Instagram account for this client account:
- To switch accounts later, open Switch Account again and click any row. The page reloads on Home as that account. A green check marks the active one.
- To rename a row, click the pencil icon. This changes the name in the switcher only.
To add a separate InstantDM login instead (for example, a client who already has their own InstantDM account): in Switch Account, click Log in to another InstantDM account. Log in with Continue with Email (code or password). Your current login stays signed in.
On the phone app
Tap your profile photo at the top right, then Switch Account. Tap a row to switch. Tap Log into existing account to add another login with its email, Google or Apple. To create a client account, use the web app at app.instantdm.com.
Good to know
- A dot on each client account shows its state: green “Connected” or amber “Instagram not connected”.
- A search box appears when a main account has many client accounts.
- To remove a saved login from this browser, click the logout icon on its row. “It is removed from this browser only. Nothing is deleted.”
- To delete a client account, click its bin icon. “This will permanently remove this account and stop all its automations.” The bin shows only for client accounts of the main account you are in.
What you can’t do
- Connect two Instagram accounts to one InstantDM account.
- Delete your main account from the switcher. See How do I delete my InstantDM account?
- Move a client account to a different main account.
- Create client accounts as a team member. Only the owner of the main account can.
If it doesn’t work
- “Account limit reached”: your plan’s account limit is used. See plans for several accounts.
- You logged in with Instagram from “Log in to another InstantDM account” and the wrong account changed: use email (code or password) there, not Continue With Instagram. Instagram login from that screen can attach the Instagram to the account you are already in.
- “IG page @… is already connected to another email”: that Instagram belongs to another InstantDM login. See Why can’t I connect my Instagram account?
