How do I see who got my DM and what happened to each comment?

  • Works on: Web app, iPhone app, Android app

Short answer

Open the post in Quick Automation and go to the All Comments tab. Each comment shows status tags such as Sent, Replied and Link Opened, or the reason it failed. Click View Summary to see totals and download a CSV.

Every post with an automation keeps its own history: who commented, what InstantDM did, and what went wrong.

Steps

  1. Click Quick Automation in the sidebar.
  2. Open the Instagram tab (or Facebook for Page posts) and click the post.
  3. Open the All Comments tab.
  4. Read each row: Insta ID (their username), Status, City (when known), Comment and Responded Time.
  5. Click a row to expand it for more detail, including when the link was opened.
  6. Click Load More at the bottom to see older comments.
  7. To get totals, click View Summary. You’ll see Total Contacts, DM Sent, Comment Replied, Link Opened, Story Reply and Ad Automation.
  8. Click Download CSV to save the list.

You can also jump here from Insights: click a row under Recent Automations and the post opens with that person highlighted.

On the phone app

Tap Instagram on Home, open Posts (or Stories), and tap the post. Open the Contacts tab. Each person shows their comment and badges such as DM Sent, Comment Reply and Link Opened, plus the error if one happened. The app can’t export this list.

What the status tags mean

  • Sent: InstantDM sent the DM and Instagram accepted it.
  • Replied: your public reply was posted under the comment.
  • Link Opened: they tapped your link (only for links with Track link clicks on).
  • Scheduled: waiting in a queue, to be answered later.
  • Rate limit reached: your plan’s hourly limit was reached, so this comment wasn’t answered automatically.
  • Instagram limit reached: Instagram itself asked InstantDM to slow down.
  • No automation configured: the post had no automation when the comment came in.
  • A red box shows the error message Instagram sent back, for example when it refused the DM.

Good to know

  • Only top-level comments are listed and answered. Replies inside a comment thread never trigger.
  • The CSV export stops at 20,000 contacts (“Export was capped at 20,000 contacts”).
  • Times in the list are shown in your computer’s time zone.

Questions people also ask

Why does a comment say No automation configured?

The comment arrived when the post had no automation switched on. Set up the automation, then use Re-run missed comments to answer it (Trendsetter and above).

What does Scheduled mean on a comment?

The comment is waiting in a queue and will be answered later. This usually happens on busy posts.

Can I download the list?

Yes. Click View Summary, then Download CSV. The export holds up to 20,000 contacts.

Why are these people not on the Contacts page?

The Contacts page lists people from flows and Lead Gen only. People who got a simple Send Link DM are listed on the post itself.
