Short answer
In the post's automation editor, choose All comments in the Trigger box instead of Specific Comments, then write your DM and click Publish. Every new top-level comment on that post then gets the DM. All comments is available on Legend Pro and above. On the Free plan, use a trigger word instead.
Before you start
- You need Legend Pro or a higher plan. On plans without it, All comments shows a crown and can’t be picked.
- Think about volume. Every comment uses a DM, and on a busy post you can reach your plan’s hourly limit quickly.
Steps
- On Home, click New Automation → Comment to DM → Existing posts. Pick your post and click Next.
- Click Send Link & PDF. The editor opens.
- For a post that is already automated, open it from Quick Automation → Instagram → Posts and click the Send Link or PDF card instead.
- In the Trigger box, click All comments. You’ll see “All comments will be automated.”
- Set the public reply: add lines with Reply Comment, or switch Reply with comment! off.
- Under Send a DM!, write your message.
- Click Publish.
On the phone app
In the post editor (Send Link or Images → Edit Automation), open Trigger Words and choose All Comments. It is a paid option in the app too: the app sells Legend Pro under the name Starter. Then tap Publish.
What your followers see
- Anyone who leaves a new comment on the post, even just an emoji, gets your DM a few seconds later.
- If public replies are on, one of your reply lines appears under their comment.
- If they don’t follow you and Instagram refuses the DM, a public comment asking them to follow is posted instead. See public comment replies.
Good to know
- Comments are answered only from the moment you publish. Older comments are not messaged.
- On a post that goes viral, some comments may wait or be skipped once you reach your plan’s hourly limit. Read What should I do when a post goes viral? before you use All comments on a big launch.
- To keep one person out (a friend, a brand partner), add them to the whitelist. See How do I stop automations for a specific person?
- If you use All comments on a post, your all-posts automation never answers that post: every comment already matches the post’s own automation.
What you can’t do
- Skip comments that are only emoji or only a tag of a friend. All comments means every top-level comment.
- Send the DM only once per person. Each comment counts.
- Answer replies inside comment threads.
How to turn it off
Switch back to Specific Comments and add a word, or switch off the Send Link or PDF card. See turn off, edit or delete an automation.
