Short answer

In Flow Automation, click New Folder to make folders, then drag flows onto them or tick flows and use Move to folder. To copy a flow, open the ⋮ menu on its row, click Duplicate and choose To Instagram, To Facebook or Both platforms. The copy is a draft. A copy to the other platform needs its posts picked again. Then click Set Live.

The Flow Automation page lists all your Instagram and Facebook flows together, with folders on the left.

Before you start

  • You need Trendsetter and above.
  • To copy a flow to Facebook, your Facebook Page must be connected. See connect your Facebook Page.

Steps

  1. Click Flow Automation in the left sidebar. You’ll see Flow Automations, with folders on the left and your flows split into Live and Drafts.
  2. To make a folder, click New Folder, type a name, pick an emoji and click Create.
    • For a folder inside a folder, click the + next to a folder (“New subfolder”).
    • The folder’s menu has New subfolder, Rename, Change emoji and Delete folder.
  3. To move flows, drag a row onto a folder. Or tick several rows and click Move to folder. You’ll see “Moved N flows to …”.
  4. To find a flow, use Search all Automations, the trigger filter (Any trigger, Comments, DMs, Story replies) and the status filter (Any status, Live, Draft). All flows and Uncategorized are on the left.
  5. To copy a flow, click ⋮ on its row, then Duplicate, and choose:
    • To Instagram: a copy on Instagram.
    • To Facebook: a copy for your Facebook Page.
    • Both platforms: one copy on each.
  6. Find the copy in Drafts. It’s named ” (Copy)”, or ” (Copy – Facebook)” when copied to the other platform (or “(Copy – Instagram)” the other way round).
  7. Open the copy and check each step. If you copied to the other platform, click the Trigger card and pick the posts again.
  8. Click Set Live.

On the phone app

You can’t make folders or duplicate flows in the InstantDM app. Use the web app at app.instantdm.com on a computer.

What your followers see

Nothing changes until you click Set Live on the copy. The original flow keeps running as before.

Good to know

  • Folders are per account and hold both Instagram and Facebook flows.
  • Delete folder asks first and says “Flows are never deleted.” The flows move to Uncategorized.
  • A copy includes all steps, texts, buttons, connections and trigger words.
  • Copying to the other platform clears the selected posts, so pick them again.
  • Copying to Facebook turns off story reply triggers, because Facebook has no story automations.
  • On Facebook, {{username}} gives the display name and follower checks always pass. See what works differently on Facebook.
  • If the original and the copy are both live with the same trigger word on the same platform, only the one published last runs. Change the word or switch one off.
  • Rows that still need a trigger show a “Needs a trigger” badge.

What you can’t do

  • Use folders in the phone app.
  • Share a whole folder.
  • Delete several flows at once.
  • Duplicate a flow straight into another InstantDM account. Use share a flow instead.

How to turn it off

Switch off the flow’s row and click Yes, Unpublish. To remove a flow: ⋮ → Delete → Yes, Delete. A deleted flow can’t be restored. See turn a flow on or off.

If it doesn’t work

  • “Failed to duplicate.” → reload the page and try again.
  • The Facebook copy won’t publish → check that your Facebook Page is connected and that you picked Facebook posts in the Trigger card.
  • Only one of the two flows answers → the copy and the original share a trigger word. Only the one published last runs. Change the word or switch one off.

Questions people also ask

Does deleting a folder delete my flows?

No. Flows in it move to Uncategorized and subfolders move up a level. Flows are never deleted with a folder.

Do folders change how my flows run?

No. Folders only help you find flows. They have no effect on what is sent.

Does the copy include my unpublished edits?

Yes. Duplicate copies the latest draft, including changes you haven't published yet.

Can I copy a flow to another Instagram account I manage?

Not with Duplicate. Use a share link, then switch to the other account and import it. See the guide on reusing a flow on another account.
