What do InstantDM's warning emails mean?

  • Works on: Web app
  • Plan: All plans
  • Last checked

Short answer

InstantDM may email you when something stops your DMs: an expired Instagram connection, DMs turned off, missing permissions, an account limit, blocked links, another app controlling your chats, or credits running out. Each email names the problem. Fix the cause, then resend missed DMs from Automation Recovery. Billing reminders and login codes also come by email.

Before you start

  • You may get an email when something goes wrong. Emails are not guaranteed and can arrive later than the problem. Check the red banner and Automation Recovery too.
  • If a problem continues, you may get a follow-up email whose subject starts with “Action needed:” or “Still down:”.

Steps

  1. Find the email subject in the tables below.
  2. Do the fix in the last column.
  3. Open Automation Recovery → Missed & Failed and Resend the DMs that matter (within 7 days of a comment or 24 hours of a message). See resend missed DMs.

On the phone app

The emails are the same whether you use the app or the web. To fix most of them from your phone: tap your profile photo → Settings → Safety & Limits to reconnect, and Home → Automation Recovery to resend. Facebook Page fixes open the website.

Login emails

  • ”… - InstantDM login OTP”: your 6-digit login code.
  • ”… - InstantDM password reset otp.”: your code to set a new password.
  • ”… - Verify your email for InstantDM”: the code to verify your email during setup.

Codes expire after 5 minutes. If you didn’t ask for a code, don’t share it with anyone.

Good to know

  • Emails go to your verified email address. If you skipped verifying your email, you won’t get these alerts.
  • The disconnected email can repeat while your account stays disconnected.
  • When Instagram limits your account, the email may say automations were paused. InstantDM does not pause them by itself, so turn Global off yourself.

What you can’t do

  • Choose which emails you get. There is no email setting in InstantDM.
  • Change where these emails go from Account Settings. The email address there is read-only.

If it doesn’t work

Questions people also ask

Which email address do these go to?

The email on your InstantDM account, the one you verified during setup. For client accounts under a main account, alerts go to the main account's owner and name the Instagram account.

Will I always get an email when something breaks?

Not always. Don't wait for an email. The red banner at the top of InstantDM and the Missed & Failed list in Automation Recovery show problems as they happen.

Can I turn these emails off?

There is no email setting in InstantDM. Most warning emails stop once the problem is fixed.

The email says my automations were paused. Were they?

Not necessarily. When Instagram limits your account, InstantDM does not pause automations by itself. Turn Global off yourself in Account Settings → Automation.
